His music overall lacks substance? And you think Drake is not a layered individual?

    Just asking?

His newest music definitely lacks substance. He sounds burned out and uninspired. At times he even sounds like a parody of himself

  • SLYOOPER TIMBO

Was he even trying to go for a hit in this

    New copium just dropped.

Interesting. Can you give me examples of songs that you think lack substance?

When do you feel the substance shortage started?

He need lock in created a MBTF album to save himself. But he too busy heat check his single every track.

Everyone, even the haters and losers, want this, but there’s absolutely nothing indicating any musical progression from Drake rn. Him and Kanye are at uniquely s***ty points in their careers where they’ve tripled down on their respective stubborn grudges and their attitudes alone are preventing them from making good music, despite still being technically able. He’s been so juiceless for years and the beef didn’t help.

We haven't heard a pop attempt by Drake in years. Bro just doing him musically and experimenting between HNM and working with Yachty to identify a new sound that might carry him through the 2020s.

The transition seems less smooth than when he tried s*** early on tho which leads to criticism.

I just love that we still getting songs like f***ing fans, hours in silence, drew a Picasso, members. Plus he still gives us his long form rap s*** with middle of the ocean or lemon pepper freestyle.

I’d say it started around after scorpion.

His newest 6 are the latest examples. I get that they’re loosies, but s*** like “It’s up” and “SOD” is just straight content, nothing more. He still drops some good s***, but the vast majority feels lacking in emotional depth and presence. The production has also been sounding very cheap as of late too

He’s right. The only reason clean versions of songs exist is so that it can be played on the radio and other venues that have to adhere to fcc guidelines.

It’s pretty obvious he thought that s*** was gonna be a hit

I disagree but I respect your opinion and its a valid one.

I just feel like his music still is a net positive and I still hear the Drake I fw in it. It's an interesting case study of serving too many masters.

Interesting that when Drake was making the "mature" music people are crying for now, everyone s*** on the music and called it soft and said he was always in his feelings and too emotional. He's having fun now and doing whatever he wants (while still making music that taps into that introspective/emotional part of himself) but now they're upset lmao.

Most Drake fans don't care that deeply because they just care about being given good music and that's something Drake has never stopped doing. Y'all want Drake's old s***? Stream/buy his old albums.

It's also been noticed how disingenuous y'all have become by insisting that music that doesn't speak to something more than just being entertaining is inherently trash or bad. That's something y'all only use as a criticism for Drake's music and why no one takes your criticisms seriously.

    • tapped in with a bunch of streamers

Even on the weaker, late career Kanye albums, you got to observe the life and mind of an interesting and unique guy. Like there is a soul to it and you’re getting insight into how he’s feeling and his takes on things. It wasn’t always perfect but you got something. Not to mention they have distinct production vibes

Compare that to the last few Drake albums. Drake’s a father, a Jewish man, an appreciator of a wide variety of music, a world traveller, a rapper who has been in the dead center of the industry for 15 solid years. Yoid think he has something interesting to rap about.

But it’s still just absolute slogfests, 25 songs about girls with complicated pasts who are amazed by the OVO lifestyle, about all the snakes who wronged Drake but are now seething with jealousy now that he’s made it, about how he’d do anything for his guys, about how she was a hoe before but it doesn’t bother Drake. That’s f***ing it? On a technical level alone Drake is one of the greatest rappers to ever do it, his ability to weave in and out of the melodies and incorporate singing is a genuine historic contribution to the genre, but god man, you’ve got absolutely nothing to say anymore.

Also the “it’s 8 minutes” cope is pretty dumb because we all know the radio doesn’t have to, and many times don’t, play the full song lol

He’s too scared to do that

Honestly, Nevermind was the closest thing to him experimenting a new sound and he dropped Her Loss a few months later after mfs complained about the lack of trap songs

Drake making an MBDTF type album seems like career suicide to him
