The Element Of Surprise (1998)
In 1998, Hip Hop was ankle deep in the double album territory. Little do most people know that E-40 has one of the strongest contenders for best rap double album. E-40’s voice becomes so liquid, it just falls between the sounds in the beats. His flow went up a notch. He uses a faster flow more frequently because he’s trying to squeeze as much game into your noggin as possible. Rick Rock, Bosko, Ant Banks and Studio Ton are the main producers and they are making beats in 1998 that would sound normal in 2005. Production is heavily leaning toward G-Funk on here and it hits you in the face right from the get go.
Disc 1 virtually slaps front to back. I’d say it slightly sags at the end (just 11 songs tho) but overall it’s f***ing heat. 1-8 is an insane track run imo. Like I’m serious, hearing that alone I decided this was the best of his work so far. Disc 1 has the dirtiest G-Funk beats. Stank face on stuck. The intro/title track is disgusting and then he hits you with Trump Change. Then it keeps hitting you: All Tha Time, Dump Bust Blast, Hope I Don’t Go Back, and Mealticket (for short) is a dumb track run. Disc 2 slaps just as hard as Disc 1. 2 feels allot brighter though. The whole album is consistently funky and will either make you feel like your creeping up on someone in the bushes looking mannish or driving over the Golden Gate Bridge on your cellular. I’d say this is his best album by far.
So I’m going to give this one the prestigious 5 out of 5
Favorite songs: Trump Change, Hope I Don’t Go Back, Flashin, Doin Dirt Bad

Yeah, this album is definitely my favorite of his and his best album overall. E-40 was at the PEAK of his powers on this one.
I love e40
That being said after 3 albums you are going to kill yourself
Nah bruh 40 is f***ing SPITTIN
It really helps when you got the lyrics up cuz his style is all over the place and he spits so fast
@op E-40 does deserve a lot more love and I’ve heard everything up to my ghetto report card and they are at the very least good. Element of surprise, hall of game and in a major way are at the very least west coast classics. It’s just hard to keep up on someone who’s released 20 more albums an hour each following that… or at least for me. I did remaster Element of surprise, hall of game and in a major way album covers if you’re interested in page 1 of this thread

Charlie Hu$tle: The Blueprint Of A Self Made Millionaire (1999)
If I had to describe this album, I’d say that it’s got a similar vibe to Element Of Surprise. The G-Funk/Mob music is on 10 and 40 Water’s rapping is off the chain. I feel as though the beats on EOS are a tad stronger but this album is still a consistent listen all the way through. Big Ballin With My Homies brings an 80’s vibe reminiscent of Too $hort with 40 doing his best Beastie Boy impression. Look At Me is another major highlight with a big Hot Boys feature and this crazy beat change when Earl gets spittin. Some of the hardest songs on this thing are LIQ, Ballaholic and F***in They Nose, especially F***in They Nose…..I just can’t get enough of those heavy synth bass lines man, and Bosko (the producer) is a God on the talk box. There’s a great outro where he’s freestyling on it in the background. Seasoned, Earl That’s Yo Life and Borrow Yo Broad are tracks that slightly break away from the loud trunk music, and take you on a smoother ride about mackin and pimpin. Bosko put this album on his back production wise with others including Rick Rock, Ant Banks, Funk Daddy and DJ Battlecat.
Giving Charlie Hu$tle a 5 out of 5

Sometimes yeah, Sometimes I put album art together from a few sources if there isn't a great one online then i run it through image enhancing software
@op for instance, all the ones for ghetty green online were trash, so I remade this from a poster
BTW re-visiting a lot of his stuff I haven't listened to in about 10 years and it holds up well. maybe I'll finally get past the ghetto report card album
