Word, yeah I expected this as well. Truthfully I don’t know much about Doja and only know her come up as far as B**** I’m a Cow -> Say So -> Woman

I’m assuming she has a decent amount of hip hop projects before her success? And I’m not saying she doesn’t rap, but it seems this conversation is centered around the idea that some rapping is not enough to be considered hip hop culture

Also, this is coming from someone who would love a Doja rap album, so no bad faith here

    Listen to her purr ep

It's unfortunate but I hate both those subgenres. Love what Bino and Mac turned into though

Maybe I'm a blerd myself is that I kinda fux with Donald's early s***, even tho it's aged like milk for the past 10 years since BTI came out.

It's really wack to say Gambino "isn't hip-hop culture" when he's been around for a minute and deep with the culture with a variety of features with different kinds of artists. You can say what you want about the quality of the artists or the quality of the verses, but bro is definitely apart of hip-hop culture. There's no need or valid reason to separate him from it on that "He's more music culture" s***.

He's touched most if not all the regions of the genre to be considered not apart of the culture just cause he wanna sing and s*** lol

idk about all that but Camp is undeniably one of the top 10 worst rap albums ever

her projects are hip-hop in the same way that TML, TC, and NWTS mix rap cuts with pop singles. it’s pop rap, especially her biggest singles, but the same project Moo is on she has a song w Rico, mostly features rappers like Thug, Rocky and JID, and raps her ass off when she wants to. last project had some genuine Slum Village influence behind the boards

she’s toeing the line but she’s 100% part of this rap s***

  • didn’t I tell yall about this “culture” s*** being taken to weird levels of people pretending to gatekeep this sliding scale of nonsense?

Doja did start rapping. But then she took a hiatus and switched to pop rap.

Plus her fanbase is more pop.

Binos fanbase is still majority rap fans

Ahh so I can see how they’re pretty similar

who is and isnt hip hop will always be the dumbest conversation

I gotta tap in with her, but the picture being painted of her definitely says hip hop now

Elliott gave us Between the Bars while running XXL and staying active in the culture, so his take on someone genre bending but not staying grounded enough in hip hop is actually very relevant. Perfect messenger

Andre just dropped a flute album, does that make him not hip hop?

Andre Benjamin was hip hop from 1994 to 2000, no he’s not hip hop in present day. He said himself he doesn’t want to be part of it and feels too old

He's also been known to frequently say some dumbass s***. And this is just yet another thing to add onto the list of dumbass s*** he has said.

I don’t think this is a hot take. I love Donald Glover but he’s really his own thing. Hes one of the least “hip hop” rappers ever but that’s not the worst thing.

He thinks Gambino is an actor playing a rapper

I dont like this tbh, part of me wants to agree but the other parts wants to acknowledge that black people/hip hop comes in all forms.

I know a ton of niggas that act like Bino, they niggas to me too.

His music is more influenced by other genres than it is hip hop. Even his rap albums don’t sound like hip hop and he has a different audience

Part of that is being creative and not being embraced but it doesn’t come out of nowhere. Calling him a hip hop artist would be weird as hell at this point

He was part of the scene

But he distanced himself from it for the last 10 years that’s a long time
