Going off of your post op, it seems like you really never gave ems music a chance because you have a hangup about his skin color.

Prime em is one of the most versatile rappers of all time imo. Sure some of his songs were edgy but a lot of it was really heartfelt and beautiful too. White chinese black, em would've been in my top 5 if it wasn't for his post 2004 music.

Not day back in the day tho name me 5 rappers from the late 90s to early 2000s that made some foul s*** like em used to make

Biggie made songs like that all the time. Not to the degree but he definitely talked about raping b****es and f***ing them up and s***

This. biggie even had a line about raping a little girl and throwing her over the bridge. just as f***ed up as em's s*** if not worse.

    Black Eminem is Redman
He still would’ve been popular and had crossover appeal but he wouldn’t be a superstar

Redman's a legend, but I'm curious what similarity you see between him and Em? I know Redman was one of Em's biggest influences, but they make very different kinds of songs, at least from what I've heard.
Redman's more of a punchline rapper IMO. never heard him make a song like Cleaning Out My Closet or even anything political like Square Dance or White America. maybe I haven't listened closely enough to his discography. He has a lot of dope concept tracks though.

Most rappers have a catalogue that is revered not for the songs/lines that were egdy, only eminem has that because he would "go against the media" for his shocking lyrics... Which tells us that black rappers have zn audience that bypassed some of their foul lyrics/songs and passed on the other joints (every rapper mentioned itt besides eminem is remembered and praised by fans for other things than the ability to say the most vile s*** on record)

Em admitted to going in the studio and being egged on to say the most foul s*** imaginable

I think biggie, big L and pimp c didn't record with that energy but most likely planted vile lyrics to emphasize how dangerous things can be coming from their environment...or to posture themselves as real ruthless menaces issuing threats like "I'll rape your daughter"
When it comes from a DMX or biggie I can categorize it as "ghetto alienation" basically in the hood you will encounter or hear about stories like rape, being jumped and many cruel acts to avenge someone/even the score (street justice).
The level of senseless violence in rap music is sometimes shocking but imo reflects a possible reality for an individual in those circumstances...

It's different than eminem or Tyler the creator making edgy stuff up in their studios to shock people...

Notice how you named songs from EM’s 4th album

Give black Em time and that would’ve happened
Also you have to remember DMX was a huge rapper with some shock value as well

Eh. Em's music has a lot more merit to it than just shock value. Anyone who thinks his music is just about senseless violence and being edgy is really overlooking his songwriting. Songs like Rock Bottom, Stan, Lose Yourself, Haley's Song, ect show that Em had A LOT to offer.
if people don't like Eminem, fine. everyone has their own taste. but using invalid criticisms to knock him isn't fair tbh.

    His debut is infinite

If you really wanna go there, it could be said that his debut was his earlier work with Soul Intent. I'm talking about albums that were actually released worldwide and put on the shelves.
Regardless, still not seeing your point at all

Em haters are so annoying bro. If being white is the key to success than how come no other white rappers have even come close to his success. The closest was probably vanilla ice and he aint even last long.

Plus Em faced a lot of criticism for his lyrics so it’s not like people automatically liked him. Most of his lyrics on mmlp was him responding to the criticism.

Yes being white helped him but his skills and talent were what propelled him to being a megastar

I'm just addressing the edgy side of his music because I thought that was the topic of this thread...

Of course his fans also like him for other songs with different subject matters

I was simply pointing out that the black rappers mentioned were not remembered for their vile songs whilst eminem was for both : his shock value lyrics and those other songs you mentioned.

    • Biggie is praised for his flow
    • Big L lyricism + died to early
    • Dmx has platinum plaques for 2 classic albums released the same year
      (1998)
    • Ugk helped put the south on the map in hip hop, added tremendously to the culture with terms like trill (meaning true and real) and different beats...
Point being none of these rappers had to justify their lyrics to the media because the media didn't care that much for black rappers outside of their hit songs... they're def was an disproportion focus on eminem and his offensive lyrics (he talks about it on "the way I am" iirc)

If all you got from my post is me trying to "knock" eminem

idk, seems like you dgaf about hip hop (the culture not just your fave rappers) outside your little bubble...

funny how you just bypassed my point about black trauma coming out in f***ed up ways in their music and that I mentioned Tyler the creator too alongside eminem for edgyness in their raps....

    • Vanilla ice was very successful however it all went downhill after he was caught lying about his upbringing
And the infamous arsenio hall interview

He also was going to fall off anyways because his style of rapping + the dancing was being labeled as corny (same for mc hammer)...

    • Eminem is a great rapper that with his content appealed to young white Americans, he realed alot of them in his fanbase with his hits and songs that sampled pop/rock songs + he was marketed as the - anti-pop star... So the intense scrutiny he faced for his lyrics made him a artist to be championed by his fans as he was the embodiment of mainstream counter-culture. It did put off alot of Christians/conservatives/parents etc but those people aren't the target demographic for a young star, let alone a rapper regardless of skin color.

    • No one becomes a superstar die to their talent/skill that's not how this business works ask Quincy jones
