Eh. It's not invalid criticism to knock him
I'm just addressing the edgy side of his music because I thought that was the topic of this thread...
Of course his fans also like him for other songs with different subject matters
I was simply pointing out that the black rappers mentioned were not remembered for their vile songs whilst eminem was for both : his shock value lyrics and those other songs you mentioned.
If all you got from my post is me trying to "knock" eminem
idk, seems like you dgaf about hip hop (the culture not just your fave rappers) outside your little bubble...
funny how you just bypassed my point about black trauma coming out in f***ed up ways in their music and that I mentioned Tyler the creator too alongside eminem for edgyness in their raps....
When I was talking about knocking Em, I was referring more to OP's post, but you were backing up their claim that his edgy lines are simply there just there for shock value and nothing else. Almost all of his edgier lines are references to American culture at the time. He's not just going in the studio and trying to say the worst s*** he can think of without putting any thought into his lyrics.
If you think I don't care about hiphop culture or that I can only care about music in my own bubble, that is quite the assumption to make off of one post I made. you actually sound pretty defensive about this and it undermines whatever argument you're trying to make.

I made the assumption because you bypassed several points in my post focusing only on eminem... as if I didn't mention Tyler the creator alongside him or as if the point about black rappers violence in their music isn't right there infront of your nose...
you actually sound pretty defensive about this and it undermines whatever argument you're trying to make.
defensives def makes dialogue harder but I don't think its a reason to end it lol, tensions can ease if we acknowledge that it came about due to misunderstandings but you really seem like you dgaf about this discussion so I'll leave it at that...
Presumed defensiveness doesn't undermine whatever argument I'm trying to make but that's a very nice cop-out though to not adress them...
i mean ya of course he’s gonna center his career around what makes him stand out in the hip-hop community
dude made lose yourself. let’s not act like that wouldn’t have been just as massive if it had been anyone else

What I got out of your post was that the shocking lyrics of street rappers were a reflection of their experiences living in the hood, while Em and Tyler The Creator went to the studio and literally just tried to shock people. I interpreted your post that way because that's how you presented the information, not because of an error in my ability to comprehend it. You didn't really a***yze Em's success beyond that, at least not in the post that I responded to.
I bypassed your points about other rappers because this thread is about Em and his credibility as an artist, so that's what I'm here to discuss. If I was interested in discussing DMX and UGK in detail, I would do so in a thread specifically about their music. But if you wanna go there, cool. tell me how UGK's song about pregnant p**** has anymore weight to it than an edgy eminem lyric or even tyler the creator lyric.

I believe I acknowledged itt that eminem made other songs worth of praise outside of the horror core edgy content...

no sir. you didn't acknowledge that. maybe you did somewhere in this thread but not in any of your posts co-responding with me.
if i'm missing your point, it's because you didn't articulate it effectively. i'm not a grammar nazi by any means, but i'm not gonna sit here and rack my brain trying to figure out what in the actual f*** you meant by "black rappers have zn audience that bypassed some of their foul lyrics/songs and passed on the other joints." I only speak English, not fluent in whatever language you tried to write your post in.

English is my 3 language (and I use it online only) so I accept that critique. I don't think it was that bad though but okay, at least I tried

Haha fair enough. Yeah I must have just misunderstood your argument tbh.
Em himself said he wouldn't have been as successful if he was black.
But I'm not gonna take away his legendary status for it. The dude is talented, made a lot of impact, and has influence on the new generation of hip hop artists.
a black artist or any artist of any race (that wasn't white) would have been canceled a looooong time ago if they made some of songs this overrated, one dimensional, pissed off for no reason ass clown did!
Imagine if a black artist made songs about s***ting on the constitution, or about raping and killing women, or about killing their own mother in the early 2000s. White folks and the media would have ended this artist even before their debut album
Eminem is a clear indication of white f***ing privilege and the only reason why he was so big back in the day(and still kinda is) was because white folks couldn’t accept the fact that a genre of music was strictly dominated by black folks and they needed this white man to change that and take over
Eminem is not even in my top 50 mcs
He's not the most problematic artist or anything but I hate his guts for how he was hailed as some revolutionary for rapping about violence against women and the lgbt community. It'd be one thing if he was a teen but he's a thirty year old man saying that s***. Not to mention how immature his sense of humor is
I said early 2000s and look how far that got Tyler lol
Because Tyler's music wasn't good, and hip-hop wasn't in the forefront in the early 2010s
so im an eminem fan
but i remember i always used to think if a huge rapper - not someone underground or mildly big - made a song like Superman about Mariah Carey, what woulda happened
I've always thought about OP's point
obviously a good part of his popularity is due to his whiteness and the fact it was in a historically black space
but like, you know they tried their hardest to cancel him right?
i mean look at r.kelly. how long did he go despite doing literal harm to people

there's a double standard between how hard you get cancelled tho if you're a white or black celebrity who's done something controversial or wrong.
at least in the uk. it can be the difference between losing one opportunity or never working in your industry again
r kelly is strange looking back on it. if you see skits like the Chapelle one tho seems like people were laughing it off. I've heard people say people would have cancelled him sooner if his victim what white girls. Idk if that's true or not, i can see how it could be tho

The hushed secret is that YES, Black people can get away with s*** white people can't because of our CULTURE. White people can get away with s*** black can't also though OBVIOUSLY.
The problem is that Whites are not a minority so it's more of an issue because we (blacks) are the minority. White people have the upper hand.
This has all been said before though. White America is a really good Eminem song.
The fact is Eminem is white and grew up and thrived in a predominantly black genre and culture so he does get praise that a black artist wouldn't
But as a whole, Blacks are the ones who have to grow up and thrive in a culture and society that is mostly white which is why some one like Obama gets praise while if Obama was white, he wouldn't be as warmly accepted by black people
I don't see this as an issue. Our cultures and genes are different because of a variety of extremely difficult and complex reasons. It has nothing to do with color.
It's just a fact that unless there is only one human alive in the world or we're all the exact same in every way, there will be conflict, It doesn't mean it's not worth fighting for peace or for what you believe in though, Just know there is no reasonable and perfect end result

I was talking as a wider issue. In pop music, sure it doesn't have many big side effects, altho in the case of R Kelly there are people who argue it did.
It's natural for people to resonate more with people from their culture, but when that starts effecting who gets a platform in the media or who's problems are taken seriously, then we should do the sensible thing and protect those minorities, even if it's not what we naturally want to do.
