i guess the childhood trauma made him hate himself in a reverse racism type of way?? idk but he talked alot about not being respected for being white so maybe it was to deflect from that

why do you need to have a fake accent to hang out with people outside of your race?

He probably got the accent from hanging out with them for ages, i mean it would definitely influence him a bit

Maybe I guess. I just see guys like the Beastie Boys and El-P who never had to act like anyone other than themselves to sell records, and at this point, both are revered and recognized hip hop legends. Why did Em have to front?

Isn't calling it a blaccent kind of stupid since he was raised around people who talk like that?

Do you go to black people who you deem "talk white" and call it a whitecent? lol

bro, this still doesn't explain how he literally lost his accent lmao. my grandfather is from trinidad & tobago and he is 84 years old and has lived in the USA since the late 60s and he still has his accent

Actually a very interesting topic in sociolinguistics. It's called accommodation theory or speech accommodation theory.

So the thing is, Eminem was predominately raised around white kids. All of his childhood friends were mostly white.

Secondly, a "blaccent" is a caricature of how non-black people think all black people speak like. Of course, not all black people have one accent, and that's the problem with a blaccent. It's stereotyping how black people speak to try to earn more social capital amongst black people, which Eminem was clearly trying to do in 1999.

I mean.... Why is trying to earn social capital amongst black people looked at as a bad thing... Eminem has proven himself to be genuine to why are you still trying to act like he's a racist or some s***

the man was literally besides himself for most part of his prime i think he even cringes at stuff like that now cause he probably doesn't even recognize himself in it, but then again its not as big of a deal, if it were more people would've said s*** but em always showed respect and admiration for the culture he wanted to be a part of as a guest.

didn't say he was a racist, and black people, like any people, don't exist as a monolith. you can't assume every black person is gonna like you more because you have a fake accent. most black people i personally know would cringe hard at someone with a blaccent.
