JIK is more essential. Judging by the leaks, it seems like he had a lot of material and multiple versions for each song. Same thing with Yeezus, but this time Kanye was braver and he took out way more “cool s***” than he did on Yeezus in order to stick to his vision.
Artistically JIK is his bravest output yet, that’s why I say it’s better. There’s an interview around the time Nori had just born when Ye is asked if he’ll continue to curse on his music and he said yes because Tarantino without violence is not Tarantino. With JIK tho, Ye throw away what you could say makes Ye, Ye. He’s not afraid to evolve.
I’m not judging minimalist in a higher regard than maximalism (if I had to choose, I’d love Kanye’s next album to be more like MBDTF because that’s my personal fav Ye album). I am judging based on what Kanye wants and if he’s successful at accomplishing that.
I also prefer Ye and Pablo subject matter, and I’m not a Christian, but I won’t say one topic is better than the other.
I respect your thought process. Your personal fav is MBDTF, but you were ranking on Ye's artistic evolution...that makes more sense. I don't agree with your thought process, because I feel Ye is spending less time and effort on his albums...he is busier these days and isn't making 50+ drafts to a single track.
One topic is not inherently better than another, but the depth is important to me as Ye grows artistically
I also would like another maximalist album from Ye. We could use a album with a large sound that proclaims God's immense glory.
holy s*** imagine thinking Ye and JIK are good albums. F*** me man, there are actually people who think JIK and Ye is better than College Dropout and MBDTF?! Were you born in 2015?!
Every Ye album is great. I was born in 96.
Jesus Is King is as bad as Revival by Eminem
Revival is like an hour long and way harder to get through
Only real ones know this is the rightful ranking:
1. JESUS IS KING
2. Ye
3. The Life of Pablo
4. Yeezus
5. 808s and Heartbreak
6. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
7. Graduation
8. Late Registration
9. The College Dropout
This is because as he gets older he gets more experienced in creating art and levels up in taste.
The only exception is MBDTF because he wasn’t trying to make real art there, but more like critic-bait pseudo art. He wanted to make the masses believe he created a masterpiece in order to save his career, and he accomplished that.
He’s been playing with public perception ever since fam. Once it was stablished that he is able to create “masterpieces” he went on to do whatever he wanted whether you’d like it or not (it doesn’t really matter to him because his taste level is so much higher than yours).
He was about to do the same s*** on the 7th solo (Pusha was right when he said that album was going to be better than MBDTF) but he changed his mind and went for the art (and THEN he regretted that, Pablo era is Kanye’s craziest yet {which one/which one}).
Now it seems like he doesn’t give a f*** anymore, but he can make MBDTF 2 if he wants to (and he might just do that before focusing on his presidential campaign).
If you know you know
Jesus Is King is as bad as Revival by Eminem
No
Could argue it's kamikaze level tho
This thread is already aging well after that GQ interview. It will only get better.
