I think critic bait is a real phenomenon however I don’t think the artist is the culprit. It’s more so a reflection of the critics and what they gravitate to. If I had to describe what that is, probably albums that are well thought out thematically and tell a story and have some level of messaging. Which is kinda dumb to just reduce that to “critic bait.”

if you use some sampling or rap about about some subjects or make weird voices critics are gonna hold you a higher esteem than others that maybe use more traditional production or just use a regular rap voice
