To me this almost suggests that there needs to be a “quota” in order for diversity in Oscar nominations, which might be as sad as the decades of discrimination

The best solution is to fill the Academy with voters who are really apart of the cultures being shunned, so we don’t need these shallow displays of virtue - there would simply be more diversity in the nominations without the posturing

But one could only hope for true equality like that

all this does is give ammo to the right in the culture war while effecting no real change

The industry as we’ve known it is so far gone as far as making interesting theatre-going work commercially viable. s*** like this just ramps up the acceleration of the transitionary period we’re in (I hope)

I am 100% positive that this will do all these things:

• fix these issues in a noticeable way

• help the Academy and ceremony regain at least a kernel of credibility and cultural relevance

• be accepted with open arms by all the annual viewers who have been increasingly turned off by the ceremony's contrived political gestures

• produce better films

• change Oscar campaign structures that corrupt votes and exploit industry workers

• change Hollywood's international presence that has held the box offices of many countries across the americas, europe, africa, and asia in a chokehold, which has resulted in citizens in those countries rarely ever getting to see films made by people who actually live there (or even by people on the same continent)

This is a foolproof plan that will definitely cure a spectrum of identity oppressions. Thanks to the previous progressive efforts from winners like Crash and Green Book, the prophecy will finally be fulfilled. We will overcome! (Rampant corporate oppression will continue as normal.)
