The combat constantly reminds me of tales of arise alphen
He has the sword, he has the wind, earth, water/ice attacks. He has the fire sword as an awakened state. And I thought that game had too many needlessly flashy moves and particle effects and s*** but FF16 really said watch this.
Sparks and s*** all over the place. There’s a border of flames on the hud
Drop the demo man we gotta get hands on already
I’m joking . I just want to enjoy this . It’s funny seeing the range of hype on this
i know bro, but i ain’t playing bout this s***. GOTY. period

Problem with Arise is that the enemy design was all f***ing awful. Easily the worst boss design in a JRPG this last decade.
The combat itself was fine. Lacked some impact though and move variety was lacking.
Idk why the quality on these IGN videos are so ass lol
I do like that a lot of these abilities have a counter mechanic attached to them, makes it so that you aren’t mindlessly pressing them off cooldown until the enemy is almost staggered

Didn't watch the vid wym by counter mechanic? Like they can be used as a parry vs enemy attacks? If so we known that yea.

Pretty much what you said, they told us this already but I thought it was limited to just a few abilities, seems like it’s actually implemented into a lot of them though

Ah yea. You can sword parry enemies as well with regular sword strikes if timed correctly
Ok I’m liking what I’m seeing here.
One of my only concerns is the amount of hitstop and all the slow motion effects but those rarely ever transfer well on video. Previews said it feels really good in hand so I’m almost totally sold on this combat

LMFAO
that perfect dodge video on IGN lowered people hype to the point that I am surprised it got cleared to show
That one thing lead to you going from 70$ at launch to 25$ Flash Sale

nfs even tho I been mostly negative on this game cus it isn't a JRPG I've still been excited to play
but that nutass video pained me to watch. just give us the demo I'm done watching clips and footage after that

its more previews for all games need to be more balanced. Too many previews are like "game of the year" "cant wait to play more" on every game rather than an actual preview. Especially when they are invited to studio and stuff or its a marketing press deal

I plan to get into the series soon
Hopefully this winter

The marketing for this game has actually been exhausting. I know they want to win back trust but they are showcasing every little feature from the game and leaving no room for players to go in and find out about these systems themselves.
Also considering the interviews and previews we have seen from selected youtubers, I really doubt there will be any new systems that we will actually be discovering ourselves in game since they already confirmed the things that won’t be in this like mini-games.
I know we are repeatedly told that “we havent seen anything yet” but if FFXIV is anything to go by. We have actually seen the majority of what is to be expected - from a gameplay standpoint. CBU3 tends to hold back on story reveals but when it comes to actual gameplay they leave no room for imagination. Everything is usually spelled out for the players in name of “transparency”. I know transparency and communication is important but discovery is as well, from playing XIV I always felt like Yoshida never trusts the player and has a need of guiding them literally every step of the way, seems like he has took a similar approach with this game
