The marketing for this game has actually been exhausting. I know they want to win back trust but they are showcasing every little feature from the game and leaving no room for players to go in and find out about these systems themselves.
Also considering the interviews and previews we have seen from selected youtubers, I really doubt there will be any new systems that we will actually be discovering ourselves in game since they already confirmed the things that won’t be in this like mini-games.
I know we are repeatedly told that “we havent seen anything yet” but if FFXIV is anything to go by. We have actually seen the majority of what is to be expected - from a gameplay standpoint. CBU3 tends to hold back on story reveals but when it comes to actual gameplay they leave no room for imagination. Everything is usually spelled out for the players in name of “transparency”. I know transparency and communication is important but discovery is as well, from playing XIV I always felt like Yoshida never trusts the player and has a need of guiding them literally every step of the way, seems like he has took a similar approach with this game
My current fear is definitely the game being too tedious for my liking. Sense of discovery or surprise I know there will be light stuff. Having Clive be the main main character may pay off overall but hesitant right now. Hope the demo hooks me enough but also Diablo and SFVI plus whatever demos come from SGF, backlog and work is about to kick up. I am chilling on it most likely

this arc has been so wild
this arc has been so wild
lol I am likely going to buy at launch but all comes down to the demo. I wasn't expecting to get Diablo IV at launch. Now I am eating too good . Especially for Summer.

but there is that "whew launch feel lets all talk while we play it" I dont want to miss out on cause I feel that will help this game for me

Understandable, I really wanna get on SFVI but backlog is too huge rn to justify buying any more games
I have a lot of criticism about some of the decisions this game has made but I'm excited and getting it day one though

Day 1 would be worth it for the group experience feel. I feel thats where it would slap best. Also if I get this there is no other game I want this year at launch til Starfield. Spider Man 2 I can super wait

i definitely get what you’re saying, im out of town when it drops and won’t be back until the monday after launch weekend. and i’m lamenting my fate
No way niggas are still running around saying this isn't a JRPG
just ignore lisa , the smartest thing they’ve said in 79 pages is that bayonetta is pretty good

Most of the time on single player I can wait unless it’s got launch feels

i’m just a big fan of the series, so it’s more just that i don’t want to wait than anything

I respect that

Of course it is it's just trying to appeal to a global audience
Which not really surprising it's not having high pre orders in Japan, they get real picky about that kinda stuff

same, there's no "falling behind" like with some types online games

PS5 software has been dead in Japan the whole time so it ain't that surprising.

What other single playable character action games do you consider JRPGs?
Or are you just looking at the series name and what it used to be?

Nier Automata
Nier Automata
Multiple playable characters but yes I’d say Nier automata is a JRPG. As are Tales and Y’s. All have multiple playable characters at the very least.
Even in DMC and Bayonetta we have multiple characters but even those aren’t considered JRPGs.
FF16 is just the Clive show

Why are we limiting it to "character action games"? Vagrant Story had a solo playable character. The original Dragon Quest. Parasite Eve. FFXIII Lightning Returns. All the Rune Factory games. There's more I can list if you want lol. Mega Man Battle Network.
Just define what a JRPG is bro. It's real simple
Lol just realized u mentioned Ys. Oath in Felghana and Origins are 1 character and so are some of the other ones.

I’m not limiting it. I’m saying what FF16 is. It’s a single playabale character action game.
If that’s what the game is then I don’t see how it’s a JRPG. FF16 is devil may cry with a FF coat of paint on the story.
A JRPG has customizable parties, multiple playable characters, stats/equipment (also for your party members), leveling, customizable skills, recognizable tropes and character archetypes (ie: magic user, healer, etc), idk why I have to do this when we all KNOW what a JRPG is and some just wanna be obtuse about it
JRPGs
Persona
SMT
DQ
Tales of Berseria
Trails of Cold Steel
Chained Echoes
South Park: Stick of Truth
Yakuza 7
Not JRPGs
Bayonetta
Devil May Cry
Sekiro
Tears of the Kingdom
The Witcher
Fallout
Yakuza 1-6

According to your definition a ton of Ys games, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, etc are not JRPGs. Neither is DQ1
There are plenty of western RPGs with what you described, such as Divinity II. See how dumb this sounds?
