We know we're Trans from a young age man this is the whole point of it all

I think its the general reaction because many of us didn't even know trans was a thing at all until we were like 16-18. The first we heard about it was derogatory term primarily when I first heard it I thought it just applied to cross dressers I didn't even know a full surgery existed at 16-18. Yes I know obviously trans people have existed for a while but google , ask jeeves all that trans people haven't been in major media as much until in the past 10 years

  • if you support this you support genocide that simple really

Over here in Sweden our medical board recently halted gender affirming treatments for trans minors. The topic obviously isn't as politically troublesome as it is stateside, however. I am surprised a state governor is permitted to do this?

That is where it blows my mind because unfortunately we live in capitalism and if thats a loan or a debt to a hospital that puts them in a position like college to build bad credit then cost of living then a lot of major questions. I would argue that many parents that possibly come across as "transphobic" while sometimes true sometimes don't have the money. Like they don't financially have the option to be supportive so instead the denial kicks in or them wanting to find an excuse. They possibly have spent their whole life trying to make their child happy or feel comfortable to be stumped by a major cost they possibly didn't forsee or plan for

ima be honest chief: the adhd meds have worn off, its 11pm, and im sipping wine. i dont know if i have this conversation in me right now.

Man’s saying that parents aren’t transphobic they just don’t have the means to pay for it and for that reason hate their child for this

in short not every family can afford the surgery so what happens when they cant afford it but their child may be in a negative mental spot if they cant go through with it

nah some parents are really transphobic I am not saying that. I am saying in some NOT ALL SOME situations if a parent cant afford it how are they to help their child?

I agree I just hope when that time does come gender assignment is seen as part of it. S*** it should be added to insurance. To me healthcare including gender reassignment surgery would be bigger than individual states making bans like this . Because then leave the ignorant states for states that support the gender reassignment and then insurance is helping support it.

So if someone transitions but can't afford bottom surgery doesn't that often leave them in a mental place of feeling incomplete in a way ? Like again the cost of transitioning all the way seems so expensive and often when I ask what happens when someone family can't afford it I feel confused. Because a child could want to transition before 18 and a lot of old timey folk are focused on cost of college, car, healthcare, will , bills, household. If a child is set on transitioning and they feel if they don't transition they will want to die I know there is gofundme and donation services all of that, but only so many can be funded.

Like has the gender reassignment surgery become a market? More than doing it for the betterment of a person become more focused on profits? I am asking I don't know the cost of gender reassignment surgery. I think healthcare doesn't cover it likely similar to many children who have qualms about having a body defect ( yes I know this is different than gender) but I mention it because in many cases one or both is dismissed but both can haven major affects on their mental health

no lots of people transition without getting bottom surgery

hormones and surgery often coexist in trans people, yes. but many trans folk come from places where they can’t get surgery. many also just don’t feel the need to. it really operates on a person to person to basis. many people feel social dysphoria but it doesn’t always translate to genital dysphoria

I’m surprised at that too but I don’t know the hierarchy of state American politics

I am talking to the overall idea the florida ban is of course stupid. They are ignorant there is no real progress to be made there. I started this asking okay "if they are banning it for under 18" how many situations are there where the parent supports it , can afford it and under 18 in florida vs many situations where even if it was supported under 18 as it is in many states the parent either doesnt support it, cant afford it . Or like the issue of aboriton can they go to a nearby state for the surgery?

like I was wondering how the entire USA looked on the issue in terms of cost, does insurance cover it anywhere.

I thought this was generally true but helps to fully know . By this logic is it possible some whether they non binary or trans in a sense as in they feel they are their in proper gender but never transition? Either because they cant afford to , social stigma, too late in life past puberty blockers or dont feel need to?

to me that is the only way to make major progress on this issue is push for insurance companies to cover it. Its central to healthcare and mental health. The individual state battles and topical arguments don't really do anything for most of the kids that need the care.

some companies offer different coverage depending on what kind of care it is

very few people have the privilege/come from families that will be okay with their teenager transitioning tbh

its such a minute issue overblown to be served as fear mongering on a platter to paranoid republicans

once you put it under the guise of “protecting the children”, you get to start planting the seeds of general transphobia across the board

once you start “protecting the kids” its really, really easy to attack the trans community as a whole. as we are seeing right now

see now I am learning something that is useful information. Before this thread I thought no insurance really covered it so it was viewed as direct profit markets or a booming market to them
