Anyone else feel like the dialogue in Crime and Punishment is often reminiscent of something Plato could have written?
Dostoevsky a true master of the human condition

In one sit?
Yea I mean it's a pretty short book. I personally feel like it won't hit if you read in multiple sittings anyway
Just started “Crime and Punishment” and I was already pull completely into the story by the first chapter.
What a writer!
read White Nights earlier this year and loved it so much. Got a used copy of the modern library short stories collection. Starting Notes rn and building myself up to Brothers K. So excited
I read a few pages of Crime and Punishment. Immersive stuff. Gonna make time for it, but I'm also planning to make time for Count of Monte Cristo and Secret History; two other tomes
omg i read this as fyodor dostoevsky dead instead of thread

Just finished Notes from Underground, that first section was some pretty dense philosophy but there were still a ton of gems in there. I especially loved him waxing poetic on 2+2=5. The plot section was truly incredible. The protagonist really does get more and more insufferable but I think Dostoyevsky knew that and ended the story at the perfect spot.
So many f***ing funny moments in here too. Him pacing back and forth in the restaurant for hours just seething from the previous interactions w his schoolmates. Putting together a meticulous plan just to bump into a guard that microaggressed on him at the bar. Him inviting himself to the guys farewell dinner
The whole Liza saga gave me major Taxi Driver vibes too
the Michael R Katz translations of his books are so easy to read, finished Notes from Underground now i’m 1/5 of the way through Crime and Punishment
I've been meaning to tap into dude for a while now. Wish I could read Russian so I could read his work in its original form. Nuances and how poetic writing is can get lost in translation most of the time.
