Personal preference, also depends on the literary experience you have.
I wouldn’t start with it, just because its first part and probably will be really confusing.
I’d start with a short story collection or C&P.

Might be a bit of a mindfuck for an introduction, it really puts you in the writers head. Maybe The Idiot would be a nicer start. Check page 2 for a recommendation on which translations best

crime and punishment would be better easier to follow along with

Definitely agree with this.
Although I'd start with C&P, his most accessible work.

thank you my friend
Started Demons last night and I'm a couple of pages in but not really feeling it yet.
Normally Dostoyevsky books grab me immediately, but this one hasn't so far.
Read that the first 150 - 200 pages are difficult to get through and then it starts to get really good.

An inside joke between the people I know who have read it it's that it's the only book from him that they dropped because how boring and confusing it was.
Counting myself too.
Just finished Crime and Punishment
I’m on part 6 what a journey it’s been, the book crushes
Hows it for you?
I really enjoyed it. The relationship between Raskolnikov & Sonya really took me out of nowhere, that Epilogue and ending was beautiful. Also Razumikhin is such a great character, absolute joy reading him.

i'll try White Nights sometime soon, hope is a good read... Tried Notes from Underground once but it didnt help me continue idk
i got crime & punishment and notes from underground
what should i read first?
C&P first. It’s a phenomenal novel which has far more of a conventional plot, as opposed to Notes from Underground which is far more philosophical, existential, and frankly very bleak.
Enjoy. C&P is one of those books, man. The Brothers K is my favourite Dostoevsky (and all time) novel, but the first third of Crime and Punishment which climaxes with the major event is just unbelievable writing into the human psyche.

just finished C&P and it was great my favourite moment is when the guy sees a jew and decides yeah ill shoot myself infront of him
I’m at Montmartre with “ A Writer's Diary”, and “Notes from the underground” as an audiobook(notes from the underground is also in A writes diary, so I have it as audio and as a book).
I wanna get thru “Notes…” but I keep getting tired and with drifting thoughts.
But what I have read/listened of it so fare is good and the a***ysis of it are great!
I am now reading “Krotkaja” from “A Writters..” and it’s kinda like “Notes..” in its writing style, but the text is shorter and easier to read.
Great so fare.
I really like how he is writing from inside the creators mind
