  • All she meant was at some point, the s***of that person was female, just like her. And she wants to be a part of telling this story and putting herself in that person’s shoes — of course if a transgender actor was hired for this, it’d make the storytelling easier in terms of relating what this man went through, but it’s really not heinous what she said.

Terrible choice of words though, should have been more careful.

    this is so stupid

would she do a good job? would she shed light on some issues that still need to be talked about?

    whats next?

Nah it’s like that Scarlet Johansson movie that she had to drop out of

That movie now won’t be made, and that very powerful, important story won’t be told to millions of people

    So stupid

you can feel however you wish about this but comparing a job occupation to someones gender identity is weird af

I thought the point of acting was to embody other identities successfully

Do actors not portray characters that usually have no direct relation to them

  • Jul 7, 2020

This type of rhetoric will cannibalize itself. It’s already started. An actors job is to act. If you have to really be or gone through what you’re portraying on screen then it’s no longer acting.

This is like that Bryan Cranston movie where he was a paraplegic and twitter got mad that they ain’t use an actual paraplegic actor for the role

I never gave my opinion on this specifically

I literally said "feel however you wish about this"

I was just saying that comparing someones gender identity to that of someones job occupation is a strange comparison to make

Yeah kind of insensitive talking about it like it's some cool film experiment for her when trans people really gotta live that life, bullshit and all

    Stupid take.

This is like saying movies about slavery shouldn’t exist since people have lived through the horrors of it

I think it's fine for a cis person to portray a trans person on screen though I also believe they should be educated on trans issues/strugles and the experience of trans people

Halle's comments (though most likely mistaken) were very much so problematic and as such I think she should be able to be given time to grow and learn on these topics before portraying such a roll

No it’s not. There’s no one alive who was a slave and an actor so they can’t do the role even if they/we wanted them to. It would make much more sense to use someone who is trans and can act (I’m sure there’s plenty) and bring this to light. Why use someone who dosent relate to this
