I sympathize with this sentiment
Im sure our transgendered fellow citizens want first and foremost things like healthcare and safety to live but representation is important to.
Why not holly wood start hiring trans actors in general bcus to me that seems the issue. The jobs are scarce and the few go to cis people.
Im sure in a world where trans actors played cis characters and were more represented no one would care about a cis actor playing a trans character
But also they have to be realistic...they’re like less than 1% of the population. Ive literally never met a trans person irl lol. Idk how much “representation” they expect.
I sympathize tho
None of us are actors so we can't properly explain it but I know it's really difficult to get a job in Hollywood most big timers were molded into something Hollywood likes (in a weird way in some cases) but yeah simply put if transgendered people were filling up acting academy's and such maybe so but idk what they can do
I thought transwomen were women? Isn't that what y'all on JK Rowling's neck for?
Idris Elba plays a New Yorker in The Wire. And he does such a damn good job that I didn't realise dude was British to begin with. Roles should be picked based on how good an actor is, not just because. I understand if there's gross misrepresentation of a group of people but I stand with this point.
you can feel however you wish about this but comparing a job occupation to someones gender identity is weird af
Acting is a job

This s*** is so confusing
Acting is a job
no s***?
what point did you think you were making when you posted this

also this film is about a FTM
actually read what this is about before commenting, it might do well for you
Well its kind of hard for transmen actors to get a bigger name for themselves if you don't put them in movies.
How many trans actors even exist, how many are good enough to be a lead? If a trans actor is qualified for the role then absolutely cast them but we shouldn't deny regular actors the job purely based on this idea that only the actual group can play a role. The entire point of acting is being something you're not. If there's a trans writer or consultant then it can still be tastefully done. All that happens now is that the movie gets shut down the story never gets told and it discourages others from writing them.

How manys trans actors are there? Idk I'm not an agent or casting director. How many trans actors are shown
I get the whole acting as something you're not but on the other end its a great chance to tell a story with maybe the voice or face of someone from that marginalized community who maybe don't really get to tell their own story. Of course with that you risk losing numbers due to unfamiliarity but you cant always have it all when you're taking a chance on an avenue less traveled. Thats some of the reasons why Black and darker skinned people weren't and still aren't getting work today (unless their character is inherently Black or LGBT or what have you)
Also let's not act like if Laverne Cox started getting roles that usually went to cis folk that people wouldn't be undeservingly upset.
But again I'm not really apart of that community so
actually that whole acting as something youre not bit is stupid as f***. Just because you're trans playing a trans person, theyre still acting as someone they aren't

It’s not a sentiment that is solely about portraying trans people. It’s something that is going on in all aspects of the industry. The notion that you need to have somehow related to the role irl, if not straight up lived through it, to properly portray it.
We see it with the growing resentment of black British actors getting roles over American ones. I understand that it’s a double edged sword, due to some of these roles being based on minorities, who coincidently have scarce roles available to them in the industry. So the one role they believe is for them, ends up going to an outsider, to put it lightly.
In some cases I think the argument holds weight, in others I think it’s irrelevant. Unless it’s a Gods of Egypt whitewashed situation then yea I understand all the outrage. But for s*** like Bryan Cranston playing a paraplegic, and people being mad that they didn’t get an actual paraplegic actor, it’s ridiculous
Yeah calling a trans man "it" and insisting on calling the character a woman and female is f***ed up
Yeah kind of insensitive talking about it like it's some cool film experiment for her when trans people really gotta live that life, bullshit and all
Actors look at almost every role like that. Speaking from experience. No, I didn't play a d***ged out artist bc that's the s*** I'm into...I played him for the insight that blending his world with my own would have. You develop a better understanding of people that way, which leads to a more accurate portrayal of that person's plight.
Moreover, I believe they shouldn’t have chosen her to play such a role in the first place.
ehh , if you have the acting skills to play the role, go for it?
plus you shouldn't even be mad at Halle Berry. the industry picks the candidates for the role, and they obviously thought she would be a good fit.
