My review.

Was kind of conflicted on this in theory but pleasantly surprised. The flashback sequence was interesting purely on how well they nailed the aesthetic and feel of the original film
as well as the era it was made in but in practice it’s as much a form of artistic mutilation as the worst of Disney’s Star Wars. The foundation of these reboots is fundamentally flawed. Michael Myers doesn’t work when given the weight of a franchise that’s essentially been erased in it’s entirety. Myers as the shape is only interesting in the first two films basically overseen by Carpenter and as a character he’s only compelling in Zombies often criticized brutal reimagining.

David Gordon Green wants it both ways while also wanting to keep the mythic status ten films worth of terror creates. How it deals with trauma is less sophisticated and nuanced than Zombie’s H2 and less “maturely” composed in its atmosphere and mood as the original it wants you to know it reveres so much. Despite this it sort of forgoes the pretense that the first 2018 reboot had of being the real true serious sequel that’s going to save the franchise and just gives into obvious slasher movie violence. It’s as dumb and bloody as it’s stupid title implies and maybe that’s exactly what this needed to be.

Honestly refreshing that it leans into the overt camp of a 70 something year old man running around cutting people into pieces like some coked up Punisher past his prime. Critics are going to hate this for that and I totally understand. They still cling desperately to the prestige associated with the original and it’s why the last films attempt at recapturing that resonated with them and alienated me. I don’t believe it’s possible to accomplish that effectively, so cutting the crap and just being a glorified fan film that’s closer to the bluntness of Friday The 13th was the right move if you had to make one.

nah slashers just not my thing like that anyway, and it's not like Halloween as a franchise overall has been all that so

Had some weak moments here and there like most of the hospital scenes imo (Mainly because of the dialogue) but overall this was pretty fun and atmospheric. Can't wait to catch it in the theatre next week

Yo my theater had a stabbing or some s***. We were at the part of the movie where the talent show guy was telling the story of the murders and someone started screaming bloody murder, they sounded absolutely psychotic and everyone started ducking in front of their seats, my friends and I were laying in the aisle. We saw someone collapsed near the front row and the lights came on and the theater worker yelled at everyone to evacuate right away. And then cop cars and a fire truck pulled up out front. I thought I was gonna die. People were saying either someone got stabbed or had a stroke and died.
