Lmao my core memory with Dot is showing my homie rigamortus and he said “I like ya boy, but he rapping to fast on the beat” and this was a full year before GKMC dropped. Next year he’s showing me Backstreet Freestyle like you heard of this dude? I was like
Insane how I have this exact memory with like 4 people
So ktt and mu putting me on so early
When people talk about utopia or pink tape I can't help but compare the "moment" talk with this.
It sucks we haven't had something so monumental and game changing since besides a few others
Feel like some of these projects hype feel dumb forced nowadays maybe it’s because all of the media publications just copy each other’s posts. And all the fake Twitter rap critic bots idk but artist like Travis and Uzi are probably the two artist that their release days have a similar feel… but we move on by next week.
That’s one of them too lol I don’t think these albums that drop now have that same feel unless it’s from the big three
I agree 100% rap wise
I don’t remember what this site was like for cmiygl

Lol I went through the same s*** wit my brother but this was around Section 80 I put alot of people on to TDE back then irl good times. It was satisfying but lowkey annoying when the shift happened and the same Niggas that use to front on Kendrick when I tried but input him on were walkin around singing “if pirusnand crips all got along..”

I love uzi Travis pink tape and utopia
But the hold social media has on everything now leads to people acting like they are in any way comparable to gkmc.
Idk if I'm getting old, but gkmc felt like the whole ass culture changed and I have faint memories being at parties routinely hearing Kendrick tracks thinking.... this dude f***ing changed everything, with a single album. After I thought no one was paying attention to him, then he flipped it all.
Since then we've had that with parts of tapes at most. Can't think of a single album that changed so much since. Even in that era what else did so much? Flockavelli?
Section 80 and the viral ass Look out For Detox loosie was a crazy run up - within barely a year apart an underground classic and a genre defining project - plus all the freestyle vidoed he was doing like calling out Lil Wayne, Kanye, Jay etc. I wonder if them niggas ever talked about it
Miss the old TDE random life vids, loosies & freestyles
I still think look out for detox was the greatest snippet of all time
Man of the year up their still tho

There were no came and went posts for GKMC. It was there and it never went away. Instant classic and nothing we're getting right now compares to it.

Glad to see you understand the move noir, I feel exactly the same

With streaming taking over everything and the amount of essentially free content we receive, albums have to create their own value with undeniable quality. Your s*** has to be GREAT, you have to be great live, and you have to keep your name out there to build a meaningful following.
It was a different time and GKMC was a bulletproof album, as potent as a greatest hits but with way more effort put into its construction. We don't get albums like that very often anymore and even fewer stick around.

He was a much bigger artist by the time GKMC came out, the release of that album would've been the make or break for the rest of his career so while you're technically right yes I still do consider GKMC as the debut
