I mean I guess I’d just say — if your bar is Star Wars or especially Marvel, then clearly your bar is not very high in terms of film quality (or high quality TV).
Star Wars (in recent years) and Marvel since its inception are franchises designed to make money off of the entire branding — they are largely not concerned with trying to tell artful stories with depth and nuance.
And quite frankly, that’s how the Harry Potter movies were also designed (with perhaps the exception of Cuaron’s PoA).
I’ve said this a lot in here, but there’s a world in which this series is what it should be — an attempt to create a true prestige TV artful and nuanced version of this story. The obvious comp for what it would be in an ideal scenario is GoT (which obvi had horrible writing at the end, but approached things the right way for a large portion of its run).
I wasn’t trying to establish Star Wars as the MCU as “the bar” for big budget franchise filmmaking. Rather, I was trying to illustrate how big of an achievement the Potter films are. Apart from The Lord of the Rings and Dune, Harry Potter is the best example of how to adapt a beloved book into a movie. Which is why I couldn’t disagree more about the Potter films being in the same vein as the MCU. The Harry Potter movies are not soulless products made for mass consumption.
There is clearly a lot of passion and thought put into the Harry Potter movies. The fact that the series is so consistent without an actively bad movie in the main 8 is a massive achievement. It is a series that had four directors, took 10 years to complete, and weathered the storm with things like recasts and they pretty much nailed it. When the Potter films are firing on all cylinders: Prisoner of Azkaban, Order of the Phoenix, Deathly Hallows Part 1 — they represent some of the best the blockbuster entertainment the industry has to offer.
I understand your perspective about this show having a chance to be a prestige series that explores characters like Sirius more, but unfortunately I just don’t think it’s going to happen. I could be wrong. But right now it just has too much to overcome. It’s more than the look, sounds and cast of the movies. This show also has to reimagine set pieces, locations, the sound of the spells etc. Not to mention that there are two world famous theme parks based on the Harry Potter movies, and they’ve only doubled down on that by approving an expansion. Again, I’m fully aware I could be wrong, but right now it’s going to be hard for this show to have the same cultural impact.

I respect what you’re saying — it’s definitely difficult to have blockbuster movies not be ass and have everything work well, and doing that for 10 years is a commendable task in organization and teamwork by everyone involved.
That being said, my main point about the artistry lacking from the movies is not really swayed on the writing side of things (I will 100% agree that the overall production of the movies was extremely artistic).
So what I guess my original point I was trying to make is that the movies just strongly lacked any innovation or creative thinking on the writing side (and also quite often on directing as well). So there is so much room for growth there.
They should hire Peter Dinklage to be hagrid
If they don’t go with Paapa for Snape what if they got Matt Smith? HBO already works with him on House of Dragons and he plays a similar not exact type on that show

dude's too overexposed. i'd rather have a relatively unknown actor.
I have a feeling they will keep Hedwig's Theme, same as how Bond movies use the classic theme.
By season 3 they’ll abandon their “one book per season” philosophy and we’ll somehow get Azkaban/Goblet/Phoenix all in one season.
I know Sharon was posted earlier but Rachel
rachel too leng
need ashley walters, kano, daniel kaluuya, john boyega, tosin cole, idris elba, damson idris littered throughut the 8 series need subtle topboy influence with a minor character thinking they're in the trap a roadman til harry claps him

It’s used in the teaser (with the background of the castle also staying the same) so im not expecting any changes in that sense lol
I know they're going crazy on costume design
yh poor things womman got the gig might be most beautifully designed series ever
Looking forward to this
