Just finished Kafka. One of the most unique and interesting books I’ve read. I also read after the quake a while ago and I really enjoyed that one too. Any suggestions about which to start next?

Sorry famo. But 1Q84 had to be the worst book I’ve read in years.
My god it's bad right

Absolute dog s***. I like Murakami but 1Q84 has some of the worst objectively bad writing I’ve ever read.

Hey so your best friend died and the first thing you talk about is her t***.
There are so many things in this book I hated I could talk about it all day. What was that weed scene ? Why was the cult thing turned into a anime rape scene

Just from a story perspective the idea of the two main character being mystically attached from a childhood moment where they touched hands and nothing else is the weakest plot line I’ve ever read :dead: like straight from the mind of a 10 year old
There’s so many times where Murakami is shamelessly just telling you everything that’s happening leaving no room for an imagination to take place. Countlessly spells out the plot which at times comes off as super sardonic making it feel like the reader isn’t smart enough to put things together.
The book is overall super contrived. He’s just forcing these things to happen and it feels awkward ant not natural.
the amount of times I read a sentence where the character is describing to you the plot was too many and obnoxious. “Oh wow this must be a new reality” “I will call it 1Q84”
the whole chapter where she goes back to the highway is the cringiest chapter I’ve ever read. Completely unnecessary and awful.
I could talk about it all day. Seriously. So many plot holes, unnecessary story lines, unfulfilled concepts and plot lines. Weak story telling. The list goes on. The fact that people claim it to be his best is quite interesting. I assume the people who do are young and have yet to branch out and read from more authors / genres.

You couldn't have worded it better. This book is perfect... to pick apart all day.
Why do characters act like total virgins sometimes then the next moment they have s***like animals?
Then there's bright moments like the story about the bodyguard in Kamchatka where I was drawn in only to completely abandon that later. Speaking of abandoning... How many plot lines were just tossed away at whim
Why is this book so long again ?

The only part that actually felt like it had some momentum was the shadowing scenes with Ushikawa and then we know how that went
Just way way too long and repetitive for no reason

Yeah that was interesting until... He f***ed it up again.
I was reading this book with a book club and at the beginning we had all these theories and notes. Then later we all just hated the book and stopped the notes
Kafka on the Shore is so special to me. Made me feel like roadtripping through the Japanese countryside in summertime with the top down
