Idk if you can be considered an oldhead if you're not even legally allowed to drink alcohol yet. And this thread gives that "Remember 2016?" vibes like bro we get Yeat, Ice Spice, O Rod. Yes those old guys are all past their primes but music is going to be fine if you give new artists a chance
“Bro we got ice spice”
Visual art is important but music is not primarily a visual medium. You gon like what you like but people with your mindset are we get so many s***ty style-over-substance artists dominating the game
Hmm really? Like who? Cuz you can’t possibly be talking about me and the artists I like. My favorite band is New Order and you can’t say Peter Saville didn’t create some of the greatest visuals associated with music ever, from the Bizarre Love Triangle single cover, to the one for Blue Monday, to even the f***ing Hacienda club
Op spitting a lil
saying you don’t like someone’s music because they picked the wrong creative director or don’t have a cool Instagram feed or don’t have gunner stahl photoshoots is a prime example of some goofy ass 2024 rap fan s***
lol sorry bro bro if I upset you. But the song wasn’t even a rap song. But yeah “aesthetics” or the visual representation of your art is not importanat at all right David Bowie prince the smiths and all the shoe gaze bands from the 90s? Let’s not forget Kurt corbain and his flannels and funny cardigans
chance was the next traditional hip hop star in the lineage of drake and kanye
He f***ed up his rapper persona and flopped while Drake and Kanye gave in to sounding more like the rest of the game
That + the overall death of mainstream media being a connected thing that everyone was tuned into at the same pace + no non trap street rapper under 25 being prominent since 2016 =
jack harlow and doja cat aren’t street and they do numbers, there are british rappers not street doing well on their side of globe that should be doing better here
If u don’t understand Kendrick then that‘s on u for having media illiteracy
Media literacy is required for the cliche filled music of Kendrick Lamar? Wow the things ppl say nowadays. Acting like his music is deep philosophy like Pascal or some revolutionary work made for the proletariat like Marx haha that’s pretty funny
Lol
Niggas will go in circles instead of avoiding the answer of rewarding niggas who can actually rap

it’s not just actually rapping tho we don’t really have good rappers that connect with people personally like people had reasons to root for ye, drake, kendrick, cole, big sean, wiz, etc. there aren’t really too many newish good american rappers that have a personality or story a lot of people can connect with in a certain way
DAMN and Big Steppers forgettable
His music won't stand the test of time fr
That’s what I’m saying damn is sooooo not special they had to buy him a Pulitzer to try to make it a memorable piece of art ha
there’s constantly good music coming out though people prolly just not looking in the right place

Not true tbh mad new rappers with personalities they just gotta deal with streaming taking ppl’s attention away every millisecond
It’s joever. The last time we had an influx of dope new artists was 2018-2019 and most of them didn’t last
The Weeknd just dropped his two best albums
and I'm a Rothschild
Kendrick last good album 2015.. Cole 2016.. Drake 2022, and 2015 before that..
Kanye an empty shell of his former self, releasing unfinished trash since 2016..
Travis never topping DBR and being commercialized into oblivion..
Weeknd giving up on making good music after Kiss Land...
PARTY never came back after he went MOBILE...
What went wrong... all of that talent just withering away as fans coped..
I agree with the kanye part
Pretty derivative music there. Don’t like Kendrick Lamar AT ALL, but I can at least appreciate the originality of something like TPAB, but damn was that damn album nothing but derivative “mainstream/trap radio hit” sounding s***
Shut the f*** up kid

Destroy Lonely got diluted by Interscope
Pablo Juan got locked up

Lonely literally tanked his last album because it was too niche

Hood rich Pablo Juan?? Damn one of the artists I played the most when I was hustling. Good s***
The final indicator for the end of an era will be if Hov's new album tries to pander to trends.. then we'll know it's truly over
He definitely gonna rap over some typa nuanced Jersey club beat

Destroy Lonely has never made a good song I’m afraid
