Kid ha I been listening to rap music since 03. You?
I'm black so I've been listening to rap literally my whole life, there's never been a "I started listening to rap in blank" limit for me that non blacks have and I'll be 33 this year.
Kendrick is one of the greatest artist, top tier discography. Damn is a great album that's able to perfect the blend of substance and commercial viability into one.
No shots but I see that you've just started rapping recently, maybe you should study him and try to learn something from him.
I’m tired of niggas acting like DAMN. wasn’t a good album
i’m tired of niggas acting Mr Morale wasn’t a good album

How do you know I just started rapping? That’s Erie I have no clue how you found that out.
My memory of being a fan and intently seeking out the best music only goes back to age 9-10, sorry I wasn’t 3 years old on line wire downloading Iron Man
And no I would definitely not like to “study” Kendrick Lamar lol I’m an intuitive thinker
Bro up in the middle of the night just rambling. Get some sleep man.
I feel him though
chance was the next traditional hip hop star in the lineage of drake and kanye
He f***ed up his rapper persona and flopped while Drake and Kanye gave in to sounding more like the rest of the game
That + the overall death of mainstream media being a connected thing that everyone was tuned into at the same pace + no non trap street rapper under 25 being prominent since 2016 =
Basically

...I went to your post duh to get a read on your taste.
If youre serious about making music you should always study other artist, thats how you grow and become a better artist. Thats what the greats do. You see what they did right and what they did wrong, and improve on the design. While also honing your own style.
Kendrick last good album 2015.. Cole 2016.. Drake 2022, and 2015 before that..
Kanye an empty shell of his former self, releasing unfinished trash since 2016..
Travis never topping DBR and being commercialized into oblivion..
Weeknd giving up on making good music after Kiss Land...
PARTY never came back after he went MOBILE...
What went wrong... all of that talent just withering away as fans coped..
A lot of terrible takes in this post ngl i think ur just close minded/havent expanded ur taste in music
i’m tired of niggas acting Mr Morale wasn’t a good album
On God but thats a battle for when I have more time
Niggas tryna argue against DAMN. like it isnt a stone cold classic at this point

Oh yeah I did post huh how’d you find it tho?
But yeah bro i was exposed to cube eazy 2pac big all that from my earliest conscious memories by my dad who was a g in the 90s and that’s what they listened to, so even considering that I’m not new to rap like some kids in here are implying just because I didn’t like damn or most of Kendrick Lamar’s output lol

Just saw you added more. But yeah like I said I’m an intuitive thinker so I’m not going to sit down and “study” music like if it was physics or some s***. I’m not going to claim I’m the best rapper or whatever lol but I freestyle my songs in 3 minutes or less, 15 or less with additional vox layers and a bit of mixing. I prefer taking an intuitive route, whatever comes out was meant to come out
Just played counter strike for 14 hours straight
Ur dopamine receptors are fried bro

and that’s why the genre is in this state 😏
Reading thru this thread is just a reminder i need to sit down n listen to TPAB in full lol i just couldn't dig the jazz/spoken word s*** at the time.
Could be completely wrong ab how the album sounds i only listened to a track or 2
Media literacy is required for the cliche filled music of Kendrick Lamar? Wow the things ppl say nowadays. Acting like his music is deep philosophy like Pascal or some revolutionary work made for the proletariat like Marx haha that’s pretty funny
Are you actually ritar I‘m basically saying Kendricks s*** is not that complex if u just understand how to interpret basic art (mea. are someone who possesses minimal media literacy) nobody said he‘s Marx or sum but at the same time it‘s not like he‘s Drake, Carti or something
At the end of the day, primes don't last forever. But those rappers will be remembered for their primes more than than lower late career outputs.
It happens all the time. Outside the Internet, Eminem is still regarded as a legend just off the strength of his 99-03 prime.
This is more so an indictment on the fact that the newer rap stars just aren't delivering music on par with the rappers you named to carry the torch.
Some users should just eat their brains: Kendricks music is not crazy highly intellectual but if you say you don‘t understand what he says you have to be stupid enough to not have basic media literacy

Yeah
2010s rap has aged so well compared to 2000s rap
A lot of 2000s stuff sounded like dust in the 2010s
Maybe i’m just old and nostalgic because i was a teen in the 2010s
Disagree.
You're telling me Blueprint, GRODT, Late Registration, Carter 2, TM101, MOTM, Urban Legend, Stillmatic, Madvillainy, Stankonia, Minstrel Show, Deltron 3030, Below The Heavens, Supreme Clientele, The Documentary, Hell Hath No Fury, etc. sound like "dust?"
Just say you're not as nostalgic for 2000's music.
I hate how people downplay 2000's rap on here when there's literally a huge nostalgia wave for that era of rap rn on Tik Tok lmao.
This is why I started getting into film. I still love music but atp it feels like I know what to expect outside of a few artists. Film was new to me so I got to watch so many classics for the first time

they always try to do that on here so they can dishonestly pass the 20s like they are superior lmao

You’re contradicting yourself there you said media literacy implying a necessity to have understanding of a sufficient level to be “literate” enough to understand damn. Lol you never once implied it was “basic art”
