Not just that. Desus was objectively funnier.
Desus was definitely the stronger of the team but as individuals Mero is the stronger half.
wouldn’t he have just been another nigga in NY doing comedy if he stayed and still ended up in the same spot? lmfao idk, always thought NY was comedy center and even more crowded than LA while he had hella connections going out there versus someone just beginning
What I meant by this was that, Mero doubling down on NY allows him to run around with Mamdani and be apart of that campaign, do a podcast with Melo, do stuff with the Yankees and now host Hot 97. All of that is the result of making NY your thing.
Desus moving to LA and trying to become someone who appeals to just anyone takes all of that off the table and leaves him with just his comedy (mainly writing, he doesn’t do standup) to sustain him and makes him just one of many trying to write in LA. And again, he might be doing better than I know and have a bunch of s*** moving behind the scenes I really don’t know. But it seems just from the outside that Meros commitment to NY is bearing more fruit.
cus that was a smear campaign by showtime execs lmao
wanted to believe this but lots of employees wasn’t down with his style of leadership
Bruh, how you tryna be a comedy writer and your tweets fall off
Desus is the perfect cautionary tale of greed over morals. Mero wanted a Bodega Brand like Hartbeat or 85 South but Desus wanted the easy check and fell for the Hollywood smoke and mirrors (they love you when things are good, they don't know you when things aren't) @sfsorrow
Nailed it

I take mero at his word and honestly it says something he went in depth and explained it to people while desus stayed silent. idk how to link comments but he replied a few times in this thread too. at the minimum, desus leaving had nothing to do with victor or this situation

victor clarifies this too and explains it himself. there was alot of racial discrimination and tension with producers/exec behind the scenes with one of them trying to fight victor, it wasn't victor being some abusive manager he was standing up for people and himself. he wanted those $2m writers out of there too of course they'd be mad

Smiling through the pain
Bros whole body language and mannerisms scream dj khaled
"Mero doubling down on NY gives him a demographic and identity that he can always operate in"
I don't understand how the hell Valentine can misinterpret this
Desus got famous for being a NYer, filming his show in NY. Him in LA is literally nothing because it's not the identity he got famous for.
Bro is getting cooked in every thread

i’ve seen these i legit think that showtime tried to black ball em but i do remember the crew posting subs on ig to victor and crew siding with desus
made me feel like the whole situation was weird and there was a cultural split between mero and vic’s hardcore new york vibes and desus la energy
so who listened today
Had it on at like 7 am driving to work. Super happy to hear Mero, but then the payola music started playing and I ain’t trynna hear 3 Chris brown tracks back to back followed by Mariah the scientist lol
shoutout to desus for letting the best comedy duo this century fall apart over a draftkings ad, only to take a deal for a draftkings podcast later on anyway and doing literally nothing else with his career since
man i miss desus and mero even though i watched that show through youtube highlight clips

they gotta stop using ai for subtitles man
Your comment made it seem like Desus would be another stand up comedian and that’s not what he does you feel me
lmfao at you feel me. yea I don’t think he would be, he’s the reason they got on complex cause of his connections lol
niggas need to relax getting offended for other people

Mero was writing for Noisey prior to that deal. The internet put em together + that “desus-gate” gimmick when they pretended desus was some white guy cause no one knew what he looked like.
@AmoryBlain bodying the thread cause tbh, showtime was just wack. But listening back to the pod over the years even in their prime, I think it was kinda apparent these 2 was never really BFFs outside of the job. Just great top tier chemistry and what not.
Bodega Boys got me through low points in my life (e.g. dishwashing for Italian restaurant) but they was really just way 2 different to last. 8 years working together is a LONG time. Mero said they both had talked about splitting up before that “desus and mero no longer working together” tweet came out.
The brand was so powerful we supported the showtime move knowing full well the s*** did not hit the same and the Vice show was way better (they shoulda paid them more tho, Vice hoed them.)
"wouldn’t he have just been another nigga in NY doing comedy if he stayed and still ended up in the same spot?"
Yes, the guy who was interviewing Obama in streetwear wouldn't have stood out
Nigga had 2 shows on television and a hit podcast, bro. I lived in NY when they did their tour and they sold out a show in each borough. Neither of these guys had a background in performing: not stand-up, not improv, not acting, not even broadcasting but they still sold out 5 shows across NYC.
Disclaimer: other than The Read and 85 South I personally just dont be seeing it for other podcasts doing live shows
They a New York born and bred podcast that touches on everything New York, that’s not THAT crazy they sold out in all boroughs.
But they live episodes was never as funny as the actual episodes man lets keep it a buck lol
and I’ve ran through the entire bodega boys episodes a few times
