if u not from nyc and from a certain era it was never gonna land

they hit they prime when millennials kinda can americns digital culture, now that he’s 40 it seems a bit silly but makes sense for radio

i don’t see how a 24 year old could carry a radio show where most of the demo is working class early 30s to mid 50 year olds

ppl in they 20s gonna just rock out with spotify

Only reason we in that predicament is cause hip hop media has had the worst case of gatekeeping ever.

All these 40 and 50 year old out of touch niggas never giving a younger person a chance to bring their savvyness to the radio in the last decade is the same reason why vultures like adam and akademiks was able to prosper (their platforms gave light to the rappers these old niggas ridiculed and b****ed out for “not free-styling over a boom bap beat”

Radio still plays a big part in exposure of artists and a younger more in touch group of people coulda been the push that hip hop media needed in order to actually push out and promote more of the “actual” underground rappers of the new school or just all the new rappers that dont get talked about via rap caviar

But know we had to deal with flex, ebro, and the damn breakfast club for 20+ years like yall niggas AINT OUT OF TOUCH BRO GTFO THIS AINT 2007 NO MORE.

Mero was writing for Noisey prior to that deal. The internet put em together + that “desus-gate” gimmick when they pretended desus was some white guy cause no one knew what he looked like.

@AmoryBlain bodying the thread cause tbh, showtime was just wack. But listening back to the pod over the years even in their prime, I think it was kinda apparent these 2 was never really BFFs outside of the job. Just great top tier chemistry and what not.

Bodega Boys got me through low points in my life (e.g. dishwashing for Italian restaurant) but they was really just way 2 different to last. 8 years working together is a LONG time. Mero said they both had talked about splitting up before that “desus and mero no longer working together” tweet came out.

The brand was so powerful we supported the showtime move knowing full well the s*** did not hit the same and the Vice show was way better (they shoulda paid them more tho, Vice hoed them.)

Idk I’ve seen their old interviews and it seemed like they were close friends off camera especially during the complex days. Maybe eventually it turned into a business relationship by the time showtime came around. Either way once it got to that point they fell off to me. Complex and viceland days were gold.

Disclaimer: other than The Read and 85 South I personally just dont be seeing it for other podcasts doing live shows

They a New York born and bred podcast that touches on everything New York, that’s not THAT crazy they sold out in all boroughs.

But they live episodes was never as funny as the actual episodes man lets keep it a buck lol and I’ve ran through the entire bodega boys episodes a few times

Best part of the live shows was the crowd reciting the AKA’s with them.

The whole crowd singing “one day you will find me, smoking weed in Tremooont” lol

They knew each other years & years before Complex but they weren't homies

The Complex pairing was a suggested because someone thought their energies worked well together

Mentioned somewhere here in this podcast, the dude who suggested it was a former OkayPlayer (Questlove's platform & forum of the OG era) user like Desus, Phonte & one of the other hosts

    Superb episode
If you ever want to play this, don't play the version on podcast sites with all the censorship & edits, play this one. the edits really Eff Mero over & make it seem like he ain't supposed to be there, the 'Nasty Nigga' section towards the end is hilarious
Mero has a lil story about how he almost had a squabble with ASAP Yams eons before ASAP was a thing
