Its not that complex of an album and ive listened to tpab more than ive listened to mbdtf
Also this isnt a hot take on here whatsoever, one of the most regurgitated opinions ever
This is literally just an average post from 2015 KTT
it’s kinda funny how little has changed
also to clarify you can love a song and not replay it constantly
Below the Heavens pt. 1 is one of my favorite songs of all time but it’s almost my least listened to on that album, - some songs are just like that -
Songs that hit absolutely perfect in one particular mood or situation are just as important as songs that hit pretty good in all moods and situations
I actually think it's a pretty fun album tbh
it really is but i can see how it’s not fun to people who only listen to rap because it dives into other genres deeply.
i’m not a rock fan and that’s how i feel about rappers that include rock in their music, it’s not really a fun listen for me.
how much you replay an album is not an indictment on the quality at all btw
especially when the album has so many heavy songs. kendrick makes a lot of songs where he’s clearly not making something for you to bump every day, it’s more focused on storytelling or introspection. the new album has quite a few songs like that too.
actual hot take on the album:
the fact that the album is so well put together musically and conceptually overshadows the fact that kendrick's rapping on the album isn't actually that amazing
i think TPAB is a fantastic album but it's a great album that features rapping, it's not a great rap album
i is basically the kendrick lamar version of Pharrell - Happy
turn it off
This would’ve been a hit tweet mam

mwhat happens when a generation only cares about “vibes” and is too illiterate to read lyrics and think about them for a second
Why do people even care about replayability and accessibility do you listen to music for yourself or for other people
i revisited it in full the other day for the first time in probably years and it's impressive and has some really great moments but there are some songs that are a f***ing chore to listen to

I think this album is where Kendrick started to focus less on wordplay/punchlines and started focusing more on crafting complete narratives over the course of an entire album. Songs like These Walls, Mortal Man and How Much A Dollar Cost are still insane displays of rapping, there just aren't really bars or quotables. It's more focused on communicating a message or story to the listener
