This was back in 2016 when streaming was taking off.
I remember the stat nerds on here would split physical sales and streams in their reports. They said that only physical sales count as “real album sales”
It was also brought up that streaming made certifications worthless since they have been given out more frequently since 2016. Y’all know this was happening in the 90s too right?
People on KTT also said that it’s better to own your music in case streaming services ever get taken down (would never happen by the way )
Fast forward to 2020 and I feel like it’s common to own either a Spotify or an Apple Music account. What caused this change in attitude towards streaming?
Remember when apple music wiped out everybody’s itunes collection and replaced it with clean versions
Funniest thing was seeing threads with people needing help cause their 2000 album library got deleted or corrupted

When did this happen?
Technically I’ve been streaming since 07 with YouTube
But I didn’t join Spotify until October 2014 when it first dropped in Canada
I still don't use spotify or apple music
i still download all my music and make compilations and s*** myself and i have the time for it since i don't listen to as much music as i used to
I never thought it would happen to me since music used to be my absolute #1 favorite thing in the world, but here i am a little bit older and i can't get as hype for new albums like i used to when i was like 17 or something
I've always gathered offline music on devices and tagged up myself
Hard drives all that
So this is nothing
Streaming is never guaranteed

You don’t own the music
Artists don’t get much from it
People listen to way too much music every week and don’t appreciate it or let it sink in
Artists now drop bs bundles full of uninspired music to get more streams to get more money
It’s terrible for music in general

You’d rather do this than search up a song and immediately have access to it?
Also why do you think streaming is never guaranteed? Spotify will be here for at least another 15 years

I'm not knocking no one for doing what one does
It's just music
That's my way always probably
I like to have control over my stuff
Streaming is great for the younger generation
When we were kids we were all stuck with YouTube trying to find the song on it owns and YouTube to MP3s
You gon watch a vinyl play on YouTube or you gonna have a vinyl?
