    Ooo

    You don’t own the music
Artists don’t get much from it
People listen to way too much music every week and don’t appreciate it or let it sink in
Artists now drop bs bundles full of uninspired music to get more streams to get more money
It’s terrible for music in general

its a way better model for the artists, consumer stuff aside

aint noone making money selling albums really outside of the .1%

This was back in 2016 when streaming was taking off.

I remember the stat nerds on here would split physical sales and streams in their reports. They said that only physical sales count as “real album sales”

It was also brought up that streaming made certifications worthless since they have been given out more frequently since 2016. Y’all know this was happening in the 90s too right?

People on KTT also said that it’s better to own your music in case streaming services ever get taken down (would never happen by the way )

Fast forward to 2020 and I feel like it’s common to own either a Spotify or an Apple Music account. What caused this change in attitude towards streaming?

Because 1000 streams equaled one physical sale in billboard rankings, meaning that 100 fans could buy a physical and it'd be the same as 100,000 people streaming the album.

People didn't hate on streaming, they hated on the ratio between streaming and physical sales, and encouraged real fans to buy physical to boost their sales numbers.

Streaming was the best thing to happen for consumers lol. 4.99 a month and you get access to almost every song in existence. Sounds like a good thing to me.

    How so?

Artists have been turning their albums into weed plates by bloating it with unnecessary songs in order to boost streaming numbers. Look at Drake, Migos, Rae Sremmurd, etc.

Even with these bullshit "Deluxe" albums where they tack on another project to that album and in return it ruins the album

  • Jun 29, 2020

    How so?

The encouragement of bloated albums that aren’t focused to gain streams

Younger listeners having to feel like they can’t sit with an album for more than a couple listens because they can access so much

Trash deluxe album trend for more streaming numbers

    Algorithms controlling consumption

Up and coming artists have no reason to make great albums and in this system benefit more from thrown together playlists

I’m an album guy so it’s obviously bad for my purposes.
