Mixtape section.
Create a dedicated section of DSPs, like Apple does for radio, specifically for mixtapes. No monetization so artists can do whatever they like over other beats with no restrictions. This would allow artists to throw their mixtape backlog up, while allowing new artists to punch through without full studio albums which mostly require support from large labels.
We would get new superstars and bring true hip hop back
Good idea, OP.
I always thought it was silly that you couldn’t put up something with uncleared samples and just opt not to make money off it
would be so tough, spotify especially can do this since they have a free version
Would be dope I honestly wonder why any DSPs haven’t taken the Youtube route and just allowed user uploaded content if its not monetized

I forgot to mention that ideally it would be free for anyone. Logically you’d think that more eyes on that free section would, in turn, bring more subscribers
The streams would have to not count towards anything and idk if labels would go for that
I like this but the labels are likely not to be cool with it. Wasted real estate, from a business pov

Yeah it would be a hard sell but I have to imagine it would help the industry in the long run. Then, like the blog era days, a mixtape pops off and then they capitalize with a studio album.
Also bring back the top 250 or whatever datpiff had. Mixtape charts basically. It would be a win-win for everybody.
there are many reasons they don't want this to happen
Niggas dont know how crony capitalism works bruh
Use Datpiff, Youtube premium , local files, soundcloud
None of this amounts to the exposure of the big 2.

I read No Monetization and I genuinely thought I read it wrong so I read it again
Why would any service provider of anything incentivize not making money from it
One of my fav Smino songs is an isley brothers flip.
A good portion of his fanbase that only stream prolly never even heard it smh.
We do need mixtapes back on streaming somehow though.

Exposure will always come from someone giving a f*** enough to google. the idea that apple, spotify, tidal any of these s***s can hand you non monetized mixtapes from artist experimenting is so absurd

youtube premium life and fans talking enough to seek music then download local files
the true thing we need is more mixtape and rare songs performed live

I think we’ve established niggas is too lazy to do that.

You are giving gen z attention span a LOT of leeway.
If this was true it woulda happened already
there are many reasons they don't want this to happen
Yeup, Putting the market in the hands of consumers is exactly what they dont want lol. Thats why “the industry crashing :-(“ narrative of Early 2010s while independent, underground and bedroom music was flourishing, was created. To monger fear that we’ll never have music again if it isnt spoon-fed to us through a record label

Kendrick and Ye indie topping the charts this year is harrowing to them

*after decades of establishing themselves via those same labels
After situations like frank i dont think most labels are even putting artists in friendly deals where that can even be possible anymore.
This why drake (putting $ first before the artist as always) really is a lame for that umg deal.
Bruh coulda really made a power move as an independent with all that market he had
