didn’t apple music have some s*** like this when it first came out then just phased it out for no reason

I dont remember but if they did prolly cause it wasn’t making em money
THERE IS A WHOLE GENERATION THAT HAS NEVER HEARD YELLOW TAPE.
Understand how f***ing wild that is.
if you’re a small artist just upload s*** with uncleared samples no one will care
no way griselda is clearing their samples

-tde’s literal gameplan from like 2010-2014
Now section.80 sounds weird on streaming lmfao
Would be dope I honestly wonder why any DSPs haven’t taken the Youtube route and just allowed user uploaded content if its not monetized
One reason I love YouTube music
in reality apple or tidal buying datpiff or soundcloud and integrating it into their apps would probably be the most realistic solution BUT like you said there's no real monetary incentive outside exposure and followers.
I read No Monetization and I genuinely thought I read it wrong so I read it again
Why would any service provider of anything incentivize not making money from it
keep users in the app
That’s really sad imo.
There is certainly a balance to be struck, but I feel like the current laws around sampling are suffocating to potential new art
I feel like this would have had to happen in the 2010s. Mixtapes are dead, the only artists who would benefit from this aren't significant enough to move the needle
Mixtape section.
Create a dedicated section of DSPs, like Apple does for radio, specifically for mixtapes. No monetization so artists can do whatever they like over other beats with no restrictions. This would allow artists to throw their mixtape backlog up, while allowing new artists to punch through without full studio albums which mostly require support from large labels.
We would get new superstars and bring true hip hop back
Amazing idea.
Niggas dont know how crony capitalism works bruh
You can just call it capitalism, same thing
yall dont get it
the longer u can keep users in ur app and not using other apps the more valuable ur app is
This is a great idea, but mixtapes have never actually proven legal in court so you may get a result you don't want

Mixtapes are dead because of streaming though. The mixtape was still very much alive from 2009-2016. It’s no coincidence that the year streaming took over is the same year that mixtapes started to die off.
OP’s suggestion is a way to incorporate mixtapes into streaming so that both can coexist

You end up getting Big KRIT’ed
A bunch of mixtapes that sound horrible now lmao

Dude this is a good idea honestly

Apple Music Connect

What do you mean? That literally gives more ad revenue and ability to farm data

I know that, but now that mixtapes are dead I just don't see A or B list acts returning to that format even if DSPs allow it. And without their support I don't see DSPs even considering it
