Please don’t lock as this is not bait. I genuinely do not understand why he’s rated so highly. What is his impact culturally or musically? Blonde is a cool album. Channel orange, another cool album.

Outside of this, what makes him so special? I don’t see how he isn’t regarded to be in a similar lane as PARTYNEXTDOOR (who I love) where he clearly has a lot of talent, but hasn’t made a large enough impact despite that talent. Neither really drops music or has a presence anywhere, outside of music.

You’re having it all wrong man. PND deserves the same level of hype as Frank. Not the other way around.

dawg im crine. cant be serious

how am i not being serious

its not a hot take to say frank ocean is one of the best 2010s artists. its not a hot take to say frank ocean's 2010s output is very representative of the 2010s.

If I couldn’t understand why Frank is who he is

Life would be a lot simpler I feel like. I’d just sit there wearing my lil helmet, my Mario kart music playing in my empty lil head, eating my applesauce

You’re lucky op, no need to be frustrated

    you kill me

I think that a big part of what people love about Frank, whether they admit it or not, is the mystique and the fact that he does seem to just do whatever and not care how it makes them feel

No I think I enjoy the music so much. I could care about his mystique. That’s how mfers should be anyways even if you aren’t a celebrity. But when I heard CO for the first time I fell in love with it. I already loved thinking about you and all that.

his albums are really f***ing good

they perfectly encapsulate the coolest parts of the cultural space he occupies, at least for the time when he made them. like Channel Orange is the coolest s*** out of 2012, distilled and perfectly packaged. very high production value too.

same goes for blonde. arguably no other album does a better job of capturing what 2016 was all about.

influence is a really really nebulous metric, its goofy asl to me when ppl try to rank artists based on that. The music is rlly good and emblematic of the time it was made. that's what matters

    Yeah facts

Idk how Blonde got put on such a high pedestal

nah endless is beautiful but blonde is for sure overrated and self important. i haven't listened to it in years whereas i still go back to endless (and channel orange of course)

Oh yeah, the music is certainly there, and I don’t doubt that there are a lot of people for whom that’s enough.
That being said though, for the average person, who doesn’t post on music forums and stuff, I think Frank being this mysterious figure who comes and goes as he pleases really adds to his image and leads them to subconsciously rage him higher in their mind

No yeah. I think In general humans are intrigued by that. Someone who minds their business and puts their work out and goes back into hiding.

If you are asking this you have to place yourself in 2011 and watch his career trajectory until 2017, and that's where things started to go for his legacy.

nah 2017 was a good year for dude, things really started to go to s*** with the merch bs in 2020 and arguably with DHL (i like the song but bro is talking nonsense on it)

Yeah, mb, that's what I meant. I should've worded it like after 2017 is when he started to go down hill, even in 2019 and 2020 he was f***ing people over with those vinyl issues and was planning a rollout, I don't blame him for not releasing in 2020 due Covid and his brother's death, but if you are doing exclusives and still f***ing people over with re-releases of Blonde and merch in 2022 and 2023, you shouldn't be teasing your fanbase like this.

People realizing frank is an industry a****** just like everyone else Most great artist are, time to grow up

  • Apr 17, 2023

Cause he dropped 2 classic records.

Aside from that, his lack of productivity is what's keeping him from being a "generational-esque" artist.

& for that reason alone is why some may consider him to be "Overrated".

  • Frank Ocean? more like Frank Tsunami of tears for his stans!

frank's lyrics are not fake deep

they might come off that way to u, but i promise if u took the time to think abt them, u could appreciate them fully.

remember, long before this guy was a recording artist, he was a pretty successful writer. if there's one thing he can do, it's write good.

u and everyone else who complains abt frank's "fake deep" lyrics is more or less exposing themselves
