What I want to know if why these liberal arts freelancing writers act so pretentious in their writing
You could literally run up on one of these writers on the sidewalk and you know they not gonna have that same tough energy in their writing that they do when you press them.
Fax cuz at end of the day it’s only their opinion and music just like any other form of art, it’s all subjective
People do the exact same s*** with sales too
Exactly. Bloggers are not credible people. If someone just wants to post music they like, that is ONE thing. But going into an in-depth review with a dewey-decimal system and acronyms like "yeah I enjoyed TFKSLWUF more than LGNEU I personally give it a 3.58279329 out of 5 stars" is when stuff gets cancerous.
Yeah there’s a difference between writing about music and quantifying music. I get people wanting to express their opinions but when you start rating s*** things get so particular and arbitrary trying to fit your multi-faceted thoughts on a piece of music into a little number, and the number really becomes all people talk about if you’re a major presence like Pitchfork and Fantano. I guarantee majority of people just skip right down to the number and start foaming at the mouth. By removing that one aspect of music criticism the discourse would become far more dynamic and fulfilling

It’s actually very relevant tho. If you hate the concept of reviewers so much why do you basically do the same thing posting here? Why should we care what your thoughts on reviews are? Your post is just a review of reviews

Corny post
It's very weird to see, you can tell on this site who genuinely likes music and who just wants validation. You're right.
I still got that music review idea in my head just trying to get my life in order first, soon!
But I think making a rating system for albums is kinda hard to get accurate.
Like off rip we should all know scores are very opinionated.
Plus you throw in the politics behind the artist and things just don’t correlate to the music at that point

their prose is obnoxious even when I agree with them
they write in the most convoluted way possible while simultaneously saying nothing and it somehow feeds the impression they're reliable
not to mention they're often paid by labels. Time to leave em in the past
i don’t give a s*** about anything outside of the actual music but people still care about instagram and antics and narratives thats just the reality of it. Reviews/reactions are part of the experience like everything else its all pointless
Reviewers just binge listen to tens of albums a week and publish a video/article on them like 3-4 days after they were realised you think they care about letting the music evolving to them? Fantano published the Donda review like 3-4 days after it was released you think he listened to an hour and 40 min album more than once with all the other s*** he has to do? Couldn't care less about them
I get why people would read or watch reviews. Maybe you’re curious on what other people think about the album. But once u start basing your opinion around sales and reviews, u lost it. Nigga be tryna tell me an album good because pitchfork gave it a good score. Nigga who gives a s*** what pitchfork said. Or that an album fire cause it sold more. Like nigga shut up.

People that experience music with their ears rather than amalgamation of numbers >
Dude, you might be the one!
If I was in the shoes of pouring my heart and soul into a project and working endless hours only to have it be shat on by “critics”, I probably would be more discouraged from repeating that process. Like it or not, these people who’s reviews we are reading have reach and an audience. It doesn’t affect my taste or liking of the music but I don’t want it to discourage the artist from releasing more of what I like. So we gotta let the artists know that the actual fans think its total bullshit.
