Im not trying to be "different" I just really like Tame Impala Ive learned lol

idk i feel like I had a "waking up" moment randomly one day and just stopped liking a s*** ton of music I used to it all feels like its about nothing

oh i don’t mean you specifically are trying to be “different”, i’m just saying that discovering you like Tame Impala is like discovering you like Drake. of course you like them, that’s why they’re the most popular artists in their respective genres

there’s a lot of music out there aside from rap and r&b, but don’t look at it like you boxed yourself in, because tbh most of that music is pretty trash with a select few gems. you didn’t miss out on much in the last 6 years

It's not even you though, I can tell by your posts ITT you came from a genuine place. But this sxn as a whole been on an "anti-hip hop cause of these young whippersnappers" type gimmick recently.

Lmao being old now, it seems like it happens every decade or so

You listen to Funk at all @op ?

Funkadelic, Isley Brothers, Sly & the Family Stone etc? If not, its the perfect segue from r&b/hip hop seeing as it is heavily influenced by the genre

not just @op (and this is from a kid who's favorite types of music is hip hop, R&B/neosoul, house music, and jazz growing up) but I really hate when being a fan of hip hop/R&B is looked at as "putting yourself in a box" and when you start liking more than just that it's seen as a "progression."

Like hip hop and R&B are just for simpletons. It aint lost on me that there's a racial factor that's played into it (not saying most of yall ITT that are saying this are playing that, but there is some implicit bias.)

    Yeah you see it too?

    They not foolin me

saying that liking rap and r&b (genres mostly dominated by black artists) is a phase you grow out of as you mature & begin to like real music (insert genres mostly dominated by white artists) is a very common racist trope that’s been peddled for decades to delegitimize black artists

But...The best rock artist are black? Get out of that way of thinking, Rock is just as much black music as rap is. Whites took it and rebranded it for themselves and the white dominated media ran with it during the 60s, 70s. Blacks make the best music, any type of music. Best latin music, best rap music, best rock music, best pop music, best jazz music, best r&b, best everything imo. Now I'm sounding racist towards white people lmao but its true tho. Not saying white people can't make good music but gimme Prince with a guitar over any white man.

Honestly if I sounded biased or dismissive in my first post I think that probably came from like going back to a Juice WRLD song I really liked and realizing the songwriting was just laughably terrible I had to turn it off lmao

Idk how I ever got super into him tbh his songs are so samey and uninteresting
