roddy ricch and polo g prime examples of new age superstars who've put out great projects
just admit ur washed n keep it movin
im not trying to make you mad
you think those are genuinely great projects?
drake music is known for worsening the taste buds
Drake music put me on to PND and dvsn so I don't think that can be true

I listen to current rap like 99.9% of the time (before like a week ago)
Those 2 albums had like 3 good songs and an insane amount of filler neither one of them has any personality at all
Never too late to branch out. Lots of good s*** everywhere, including rap/r&b. If you wanna branch out into more rock specifically check out Rage. They're what got me into it

Some other s*** too:

could never box myself into genres. it always upsets me whenever I see year end lists / decade lists and all I see are hiphop/rnb projects... like there's so much great music out there and some people just stick to what they know...

Roddy Ricch is one of the most confusing artists to me idk why he's so popular he just seems to do what Thug does but worse and with less charisma
hmm maybe this was a s*** thread in retrospect
Nah we need more threads like these
Tame imapala? Yea bro you’re still pretty boxed in but keep it up 👍
lol Im well aware i have only rlly been at this whole branching out thing for like a week
that was just the motivation for it you know what i mean

I’m just givin you a hard time bro
But yea just keep branching out and try things that you wouldn’t normally listen to
after listening to Tame Impala & Juice WRLD back to back, i’m convinced i have the most abstract music taste of all time

thats the plan
dont worry the irony of "I got woke listening to Tame Impala" is not lost on me even a little bit lol its like someone saying they just found this underground album called Blonde
I'm going to assume the thread has more and more antiblack undertones without going past page 2
listen to paramore
yessir my friend was just telling me to check out more paramore
Im pop-punk guy so I am totally down to get into them I think itll be up my alley
I'm going to assume the thread has more and more antiblack undertones without going past page 2
yeah idk why it always has to turn into this
imagine liking music by black artists and considering it of equal quality to music by white artists...hard for some posters on KTT
King Krule is pretty dope, The Ooz is rated pretty highly and Tyler called it his AOTY

Michael Kiwanuka is like a modern day Bill Withers

If you like Tame Impala, you'll probably like Mac Demarco too

FKA Twigs is insanely talented, would say she's even more dedicated to her art than Kanye was during his prime

Solange > Beyonce

Also check out Steve Lacy and The Internet. Thundercat. Blood Orange, he probably played a role in some of your favorite albums without you even knowing. Stopped keeping up with mainstream hip hop like 5 years ago, I prefer music like this way more
thats the plan

Check out flying lotus discog (Dont start with flamagra cuz it was disappointing)
Jai Paul’s album, panda bear vs the grim reaper, and MGMT - congratulations
I found these albums to be pretty accessible while still straying away from the type of music I had normally been listening to. Helped me to branch out a lil bit
Obviously there’s more like this but that’s all I can think of rn lol
Basically there's just a whole world of music out there and I spent high school + 2 years not exploring that outside of rap & R&B and I regret it
Sunk cost fallacy
saying that liking rap and r&b (genres mostly dominated by black artists) is a phase you grow out of as you mature & begin to like real music (insert genres mostly dominated by white artists) is a very common racist trope that’s been peddled for decades to delegitimize black artists
It's also the formula for a lot artists. go more "urban" when their sales are bad, then going back to the (white) audience

MGMT just doesn't click with me
Think I need to give them another shot, keep seeing praise for their music
Sunk cost fallacy
very valid
I guess now I have a huge understanding of trap/rap and (mainstream) R&B and know a lot of deep cuts/lesser known songs from my favorite artists so its not even really a "sunk cost"
Better phrasing on my part would be Im a little tired of my genre of choice and Im just super excited to get into new stuff
