I find it funny when people say “Guns don't kill people”

    ooh noo

Their go to argument is “I've had a box of bullets and several guns sitting here in my house for 20 years and they never killed anyone ”.

There’s a clear logical bend here. A man in a hotel room can’t kill 60+ people across the street with his bare hands.

you just havent met the right man yet

my nigga I'd find a way to kill you with a lego piece.

we do have to do a better job. . . but don't ever for one second think you can stop a human who's determined.

only nature coincidence fate and spirits / gods can do that

Ofc but ideally you can drastically reduce it

And not only murders, suicides are a big factor.

Suicides with a handgun are “successful” vast majority of the time. Other methods often fail, and there’s a ton of people that attempt suicide once, fail, and never attempt it again. You don’t get that chance with a gun

I mean just like Anything else ,given to the wrong person , s*** will go left
    Just my opinion tho

  • Mar 29, 2020

Again, in a vacuum I don’t think it can be argued that a society with guns for everyone is better than a society with guns for no one

But we’re way past that point, Pandora’s box was opened a long ass time ago

. . . I think when you're dealing with who you are as a person and you're dealing with who you are in society in relation to other's and you're looking upon what has happened to you because of other's and yourself.

for some people that idea really will occur naturally.
right now we're just overexposed to a lot of things.

can't go back unless you wipe everybody slate clean.

to errbody itt who's experienced these feelings theirs a way out and I pray that you're successful and find a way to continue the beauty in life each day.

This is a very bad argument bro.

Homicide rate in USA is 5.30 per 100000 citizens as of 2017.
Canada is at 1.80 and Australia is at 0.80 as of the same year.

Guns are legal in Canada but very difficult to get (license which takes months to acquire which includes a gun safety course and a background check) and iirc guns are illegal in Australia.

Less guns directly leads to less intentional homicides. OF COURSE homicides will still happen and people will find ways to murder and people will successfully commit suicide, but it’s a very CLEAR fact that the rates can be decreased with stricter gun laws.

You’re making a vague point that if I’m understanding correctly says intentional homicides will drop for an arbitrary amount of years (for a while), then go back up?? Which again is blatantly wrong.

Again, if we use Australia as an example (they’re useful to use as an example as they made their gun laws significantly more strict in 1996, bought back guns from civilians and destroyed nearly 1 million guns), the numbers from before that point and after should show a trend.

    Their intentional homicide rates:

    1990-1994: 1.82
    1995-1999: 1.71
    2000-2004: 1.76
    2005-2009: 1.42
    2010-2014: 1.06
    2015-2017: 0.8

We don’t have the data from the last 2 and a bit years.

At what point does “for a while” end? This is a lot more than “a couple years” as evidence. This is a quarter of a century.

Stricter gun laws definitely correlate with a decreased intentional homicide rate and it’s not a temporary thing, it’s indefinite.

Ahhhh lol. Yeah I guess you can make that argument but that delves more into philosophy than any kind of gun conversation in my opinion. That gets very abstract.

so many illegal guns in this world, do you think taking the legal, registered guns from people with good intentions/morals will ever stop any maniac from getting an illegal gun and shooting people anyway?

I like how people who are "pro gun" come with the argument that guns are fun and imaginary John Wick senarios and people who believe in gun control come with actual numbers and real life studies.

It's like those people who are afraid that the government will take their guns and they insist they own assault rifles to protect themselves against them, but then want the police to be more militarized and are obsessed with military worship

People are pro-gun because it serves as protection if the government ever decides that we’ve become too powerful in their eyes and they want to come kill us. Most genocides and dictatorships in history were a result of the government taking away the people’s defense weapons.

The second amendment exists to protect the first.

Wanting gun control actually exposes you as a government boot-licker who will gladly welcome a military police state. While if we have guns then at least we will have a fighting chance at defending our freedoms.
