  • Honestly though it can't be all that bad OP. There's tons of rich and successful people with weird voices. It's not like you're moaning throughout every sentence you make like Smiley does when he raps.

    1. I think recruiters hardly ever read cover letters, at least according to a friend of mine who spoke to a recruiter

    2. Wouldn’t it be risky to disclose any issues or disabilities in general? Like it’s just asking for me to be discriminated against and not get the job as a result

was just looking at internship apps, heres part of teslas

Tesla is also committed to working with and providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. Please let your recruiter know if you need an accommodation at any point during the interview process.

u just gotta be upfront and show youre qualified in spite of how an interviewer might perceive you because of the way you speak

There was no stroke as far as I was aware, my parents didn’t mention anything either. Again it just fascinates me how this problem even happened in the first place

I used to sorta have this problem because I think faster than I talk so I end up skipping some words and it comes out as choppy. What I did to improve was to talk and breathe slower ( not too slow though) and read more (like a book not ktt). It vastly improved my flow of talking. Try that before doing surgery.

    Also think before you talk

I see other posters giving similar advice so I sound redundant af. In reality no one either notices or cares so don’t dwell on it so much

Funny enough this is the EXACT same thing my little brother told me, he used to have slight stuttering problem but ironed it out later one

I think it’s all about practice really

Ya my older sister told me because she had the same issue. My dad talks choppy also so I do think it’s genetic but correctable.

I used to wanna talk fast or be the one that says something first in order to sound smarter/wittier. I always do breathing exercises before meetings or when I have to present - it definitely helps

I’ll give that a try, I noticed I do f*** up when tryna speak faster. Breathing exercises can help for sure too

I noticed my pitch gets better when I correct my posture

Just keep practicing to rewire your brain a bit. Being anxious also contributes to it if you're overthinking about how you sound rather than actually saying a sentence.

    You on the right path

We are as we are. Some things can't be changed (or is at least very, very tough/expensive/whatever to change).

    You have 2 choices:

Feel bad for yourself and give up

    Or

Realize that it is what it is, everyone has something they don't like about themselves.
Spend your energy and focus on things you CAN change. Leveling yourself up.

    Ur best post

    Just wanted to vent

So I do have a slightly normal life (I guess?) have some friends, and a great supportive family. I don’t really have a lisp per say, but the flow of my words and even pitch of voice just sounds so f***ing weird. Even makes me comes off as “socially awkward” even though I do my best to be confident and be assertive too

What’s the most concerning part is not only it’s affecting my love life (Despite me only having one GF in the past), but my career too. My peers were successfully been able to get into good jobs I guess and meanwhile I have no success whatsoever. I briefly got a small, crappy internship last year remotely that was unpaid, but nothing since then. Have great resume too, but then I f*** up when it comes to interviewing. I’m scared if I’ll even end up getting a good job. Even my older half-brother admitted that the interviewers probably see me as some “laughing stock” and “incompetent”, also thinks I might need some surgery to fix this…

No lie I had slight suicidal thoughts, though I try to brush them off ASAP cuz it’s the worst thing to think about anyway.

I don’t even know what to do anymore, it’s just really f***ing s***ty to be born this way

Imma keep it 100 you really can’t change that s*** so you gotta just ignore it bro, that or take some speech therapy or sumn, but don’t lose sleep over something that ain’t even ya fault

  • Jun 3, 2022

Hey bro, I've had a speech impediment since I was born myself. It sucks. I wouldn't wish a stutter/stammer on anybody because it really holds you back in life.

  • Jun 3, 2022

So you have a speech impediment?

I feel like a lot of successful people have it. The concern is how severe it is. You’re making it sound like it’s severe and it that case you should look into speech therapy.

You also mentioned surgery. Now, I’m really questioning how severe it is. Can you give more examples or details of your issue?
