I suffered an injury when I was 7 tht prevented me from playing sports, I still occasionally played soccer with the homies and I was in the swim team for a year or two but looking back I just wish I was able to play more team sports back then. F***ed up

You wanna know why China is ahead of the US? Because them folks don’t give af about sports they care about giving their children knowledge and a good education, I mean we got NFL size stadiums for High School football

lol china is ahead because their politicians aren’t idiots, the citizens are just pawns for what the people in power put in place

Either way I dont really think it’s a virtue to plan your whole life to work yourself to death in an office, there’s still value out of social events, sports, entertainment etc that the us is good at

There’s always news articles about people in east asian countries literally working themselves to death and being virgins well into their 30s because they literally have no time for a social life and this is supposed to be a good thing

Like I guess china is squeezing everything out of their citizens to increase the countries gdp but at what cost? To die from exhaustion in some s***ty office and unmarried?

i'll obviously encourage my children to play sports and agree that they do all of the things you mention, but there's other things that do that too and to simply boil it down to sports is a little shallow.

sports has never been shallow it is literaaly the foundation that was put into place in order to create great men since ancient times.

look up the history of sportsmanship, however the people are shallow tho.

reading comprehension must not be your strong suit.

  • learning how to work with others
    -learning how to win/succed
-constant preparation practice. The idea of getting better everyday through practice
-the ability to accept failures and losses.
    -staying in shape
    -and more

Conversely, get your face kicked in by that one team that actually knows each other and have your coach do trick plays instead of working on fundamentals

i didn't say anything about sports being shallow. i said to suggest sports to be sole thing children can participate in to gain the skills listed in the op is shallow. you can learn those things through arts, scouting, student government, and other places as well.

all of theese things that you mentioned are all ways that we can develop into great people from a young age.

However it is on the people. The teachers / coaches / parents to turn what we learn from this shallow idea into what is a great foundation for a young person.

edit: to clarify all a kid needs is one thing who cares how they get it or how many opportunities they get

  • Apr 27, 2021

Approach matters. Gotta open up the idea that sports cater to every person. Emphasize they have options to choose from team based or a solo action cause there's still this mindset that only outgoing people join sports
