Traumatizing in what way if you don’t mind me asking
like taking too long to jump in the deep end of the pool so the instructor gets impatient and just picks you up and throws you in and you little and scared so you just ball up scared down there holding your breath until you can't no more or til somebody comes to pick you up out the water.
yeah, not putting my kids through that.
Whereas, I played soccer and had hella fun. Even though I was trash at it and kinda grew out of it as I got older.
it definitely builds character for sure. and i truly believe if i had not played sports growing up i wouldn't have the internal fortitude and drive to whip myself back into shape at times when i let myself go. i would be a physical wreck really

So what would you do if you were your parents?
my high school weight training class only dealt with weights maybe.....like twice in that whole semester lol.
I say @op just better the actual PE type of classes we already have instead of mandate sports. It'll get kids naturally into some type of activity.
So what would you do if you were your parents?
first off, (if I'm putting them into lessons) see how this swimming class teaches their kids and don't put em into high stressful situations.
Basically, do like my folks did with my lil brother. man his swimming lessons was like night and day. Them white people at this lil private pool were using noodles. I aint even know what the f*** that was until he told me about them.
But my kids are just gonna be active regardless if they into sports or not. They'll have to be outside for a certain number of hours like we was. The only non-negotiable is (if it's a boy) they can't play football
I'd agree if there was a proper program that would assign sports based on each individual kids capabilities or lack thereof but you know how parents are, especially certain fathers.

remember in middle school a nigga was 6 ft and couldn't swim so coach just told me hop up if i was downing.
nigga almost drowned everytime i hit the pool.
calf muscles been crazy ever since
force your kid to do something they don't wanna do until 6th grade, sounds like great parenting to me
yeah keep em in school tho right.

mean if we wanna have that discussion American public schooling is a fraud and is in dire need of a major overhaul.
Testing shouldnt be mandatory tbh

yeah but we still gotta comply and work to standards everything is not ideal.
honestly wouldn't even think about fighting an education system in parenting unless i had money to pass down.
I don't think that's the only avenue, but it can help if you are really into that. I wasn't into sports or anything in middle and high school, but I still found myself lifting and exercising with friends at the gym, as well as involved in some clubs. It all depends on what you want to do honestly.
You wanna know why China is ahead of the US? Because them folks don’t give af about sports they care about giving their children knowledge and a good education, I mean we got NFL size stadiums for High School football
China literally takes children and force them to compete for highly contested spots where they spend the rest of their life training in that sport to be great. Look at the Olympic weight lifting team there lmao.
I genuinely believe every kid should should some form of martial arts training whether it's BJJ, karate, Tae Kwon do, boxing, wrestling ect. Nothing humbles you like getting your ass kicked every day.
You never felt that rush from competition, being all in together for the same goal, the challenges, the bus rides, the long practices, etc
you can get these things from various other things too.:.
that’s why they are extracurricular activities

You can but It’s not the same

for example, students who are in a music club put in the others together and take part in prestigious competitions
even with stuff like chess
many extracurricular activities offer exactly what you said
Fr too many niggas don’t have winners mentality. Raising p**** ass niggas
what sport you play bro
some kids genuinely don't like sports and can find some of those benefits in other activities. like there are people who straight up could care less about practicing, losing/failing in a sport they didn't want to play anyways, etc...
the main thing is just finding the kid having a passion. last thing you wanna do is force them do s*** they don't want to. kids naturally like playing around so being active isn't the biggest worry if the environment is created
i think kids should try sports but if they don't like it it'll get pretty useless to force em after a bit. you can find competition in just about anything like chess, instruments, singing, speech competitions, art......those are things they should be getting into early as well

Nah lol. I’ve played in an orchestra before and we played in front of a lot of people. It doesn’t hit the same as playing in a football or basketball game. At least in my opinion.
what sport you play bro
I did martial arts and track way back when but now I just play video games and watch big booty p***
i agree
those social skills will help alot
