Because I hadn’t really gotten tested often before that and I wanted to be sure I wasn’t giving the person I love anything I guess/ was paranoid.

I would still get tested… lol

You probably don’t have hiv point blank. Herpes is a mixed back and the testing is awful. If you do test positive but have never had symptoms, you’re probably ok and id get tested a few times to get a more accurate read. If your values are anything less than 5 with no symptoms, that’s almost surely a negative even though it’s a positive result

Or if you’re really worried you can do western blot at UW but if you’re symptomless it’s likely nothing to worry about

I’ve always understood that it can return false positives if you’ve so much as had chicken pox 🤷‍♂️

that depends on which antibody test they do, IgM or IgG
but then it would be down to your health practitioner to explain if you have a positive IgM test that it also reacts to viruses in the same family as herpes (i.e. chicken pox)
but if you’ve ever had oral herpes in your life you will get a positive result and it’s estimated that a majority of the population carries it so 🤷

Didn’t read much itt, but a negative gonorrhea and chlamydia test definitely wouldn’t rule out HIV.

You probably don’t have HIV, but it’s a pretty simple blood test, and I recommend it to everyone who is sexually active. Because it’s super easy to treat, but if left untreated it can be devastating.

Realistically I think you need to be experiencing what appears to be an outbreak for you to get definitive answers on Herpes

    That or western blot yh

Or the results can be so high it’s basically guaranteed but otherwise the test is moot

  • DR LONGSTROKE

Wait really? So if you weren’t having an outbreak (assuming you had it for sure) and got tested, you’re saying it could come back as negative/inconclusive?

    Scary

Afaik it’s more false positives then false negatives a ton of things cause false positives

Every doctor I've ever spoken to about it is like, we can, but they're prone to false positives if you've ever had chickenpox, etc. so I've always been told unless you're experiencing symptoms/going through an outbreak, it's hard to get a conclusive result.

And then there's HPV .. You could have it as a guy, and likely do if you're sexually active. There's no test for it, you only know if you get warts and even then it's not a sure thing. The reason why this bugs me is because of the health implications for you/your girl down the line .. Been thinking about getting the vax lately, me and my girl, just as a precaution.. I've read it can help even if you've already been exposed.

I had the g4 vax and all I can say is get the g9… lol

    Tell me more..

Just ask for the g9 it covers 9 strains instead of 4

I think now the g9 is standard I got the g4 right when it came out
