ktt is good for getting listeners but DEFINITELY not fans; i've been here long enough to know

no one really wants to be a fan of an artist they find on ktt. you'll be that ktt artist. if you get good you'll still be that artist they found on ktt who ended up being good. it's always worthwhile to think about how you found your favorite artists and how they were presented to you. how can you present that yourself?

don't worry about labels and resources like that because the first step is attracting industry tastemakers. a lot of kids on the internet want to be a&rs and tastemakers and they are looking for the next best thing. you can find them by following the right blogs (yes i said blogs in 2020, social media entities, same s***) and hitting up writers. those kids have their own playlists and all those kids wanna be better than the other tastemaker kids so if one of those kids likes your music they all will lol and they'll all pretend they found you first. but either those kids get their label job, or someone at a label just uses their playlist to find new artists, and that's how you get in.

but if you really want value you're gonna want to keep building things on your own—social media presence (INTERACTIONS PER POST RATIO NOT JUST NUMBERS OF FOLLOWERS), youtube channel, NETWORK WITH OTHER ARTISTS IN YOUR LANE (you're not too good to not have a lane, not specifically you, just in general), collab, do smart playlist marketing, etc. even if you do wanna sign to label, all those things just increase your bargaining power. and if you end up staying indie you might create some income channels

    Yeah, been getting some cosigns

    Dont focus on getting fans

Focus on making dope music and putting it out there the way you want to

Is b****ing on KTT really the way you want to market your music and make fans?

If your new s*** is so dope why dont you try sending your s*** to some tastemakers and influencers on IG?

Or holla at YNS on here and do a interview with him talking about the process or something

i mean you have every right to think my EP isn't perfect, fair enough. But I truly believe it is. If I had more resources, I could make an EP/album even better than 8 Years A. Why not? I'm capable

if any of those blogs wrote you up specifically, you should know who the writers are and become social media friends w them and send them new stuff and get their opinion on it and form a good line of connection

no one reads those blogs though. that's not really the end goal. just convert more and more "music people" like those writers, bloggers etc and it'll help astronomically

Yeah, been sending lots of emails to blogs. Waiting for the results - they get 400 emails a day. I've been reposted by some small blogs so it's doing something. Just don't have the budget fore PR, otherwise 8 Years A would be reviewed by big magazines/blogs

and to keep it a buck with you OP. i wouldn't really wanna be a fan of an artist who was on an internet forum under their artist name, calling other albums a 6/10 and posting with a chip on their shoulder. it doesn't come off as confident to me as a music fan. and image is soooo important. everyone has an image. even when you mentioned jai paul, his whole existence is shrouded in mystery. the demo tape wouldnt have been perceived as legendary if he was s***posting on KTT1 at the same time. just my two cents

thats why i had always put such importance on being posted on a blog
one blogpost and now i have an appointment set up with this podcast that invited me, thats no coincidence lmao

facts. the "blog cosign" is more about the specific small group of people who read it

Yeah, you're right. I'll stop the posting on KTT tbh - people know enough about 8 years A now to go check it out themselves. Thnks for all of the advice; I can tell it came from a very good place
