Well yes, in our time and society both Germans and European Jews are seen as part of the same category of “white”, but the point is that in 1940s Germany, many people believed that Germans and European Jews were two distinct racial groups. Similarly, in today’s America all Europeans are more or less “white”, yet ~150 years ago there would’ve been a big distinction drawn even just between those of English descent and all other Europeans.

Or perhaps another way, what was the motivation behind the Nazi views on Slavs, if not race of some sort, despite both Germans and Poles being white in our contemporary context?

what this comes down to really is that it's impossible to have a discussion about something, particularly when comparing events happening across time and space, without clarifying the definitions of the key terms

What is "race?" What is "racism?" What is "whiteness?" What is the difference between "race" and "ethnicity?"

I doubt any one person in this thread would answer all those questions the same way as anyone else. Certainly the Nazis had their very own definitions that (ideally) don't track with any of ours, either. This is why it's stupid for people to jump down someone else's throat for having a different preconception of those things (especially when the definitions are even to this day constantly changing)

They have a cultural system built entirely around the religion that makes it up, and participation in the group is entirely built around your lineage unless under special circumstance that is judged by members of the group itself.

Jewish people aren’t a race because race itself is a social construct that is immaterial and irrational. There are Jews of all skin colors.

That doesn’t mean the Holocaust wasn’t a racial issue though, since one side explicitly entertained race and racism as the basis in their persecution of Jews

Also the nazis specifically looked towards American racial policy such as Jim Crow when planning the holocaust

You can break down race by more than just color or ethnicity. You can also break down by physical attributes and social identity, which is what he did.
