Ali is a very underrated mixtape and there was a time where people would rank Mike G right behind Earl. Award Tour EP is also pretty good and is basically a collab tape with Vince Staples. He really shot himself in the foot by not contributing to OF Tape Vol 2 outside of Oldie

Also I think Tyler only did one or two songs on here, Left Brain and Syd handled Mike’s production for the most part.

Mike G - Ali

Very overlooked mixtape! Actually the tightest one so far where I liked almost every song (except Stick Up) it’s a little one dimensional because of how nonchalant his voice and flow is but I think it aged well because a lot of rappers rap like this today.

Just a mixtape with nice vibes and rapping, I liked the flows he went in and Mike played it to his strengths. I like how the production here is grimey and minimalistic, Tyler really “got” this sound. Definitely worth a listen, preferably high. P.S. it’s fun hearing some early Vince Staples in this.

Fav songs: OkayMikeG, Timeless, King, Crazy.

All his ideas are things he was attempting in his earlier years and he’s able to actually do them now

That was the cover for an album he was gonna make when he was 16 it was like a dream album of his where he was gonna get a bunch of his favorite rappers and do a bunch of flex luxury raps, the few songs that are online from it are him rapping about the same things hes rapping about on call me if you get lost except he actually has them now

Ali was a solid tape, Mike G was a pretty good member in 09/10 but past that he never got better while the rest of the members did and I feel like they noticed it and stopped including him in the music as much

He submitted multiple songs for OF Tape vol 2 and they all got rejected except Forrest Green which had already been out for a year

Yeah sorry but this is straight up bad. At its best this sounds like Gorillaz B-sides, and its worst it sounds like something you produce at 3AM think it’s fire then wake up and realize it sucks. I respect the vision but this is not my thing at all and would not recommend. Glad he made great music with The Internet later.

L for not at least recognizing/mentioning the ADHD sample without this album who knows how Kendrick career would’ve went

Can’t help but feel the “gorillaz b sides” take just comes from the similar cartoon art style. A lot of people let artwork influence their takes in that way
