Just heard about this but I'd be willing to make a bet it won't make close to a billion of it even comes out
You’re not being very optimistic OTF optimistic man
It’s the finale of all of the D+ shows and leads directly into the creation of the First Order/sequel trilogy, idk if it’ll hit a billi but it’ll make hundreds of thousands. Plus all of the die hard OT fans who grew up on the thrawn trilogy books + all the kids who grew up on the newer stuff will be in attendance, I think it’ll do very well (especially if they include Luke, Leia and Han)
Disney+ is a success because people love Disney sure but that doesn't guarantee a permanent hold over the market. If we've seen anything with box office recently and covid the movie industry can f*** up just from a couple bad movies
It's Disney. They own ESPN. They push out licensed games. They have their hands in everything. Whatever the box office is, they'll have a big market share of it.
Most of the good movies I've seen this year were cheap af so idc

Idc about how well anything sells/performs I’m excited either way
I enjoy some of them, but as somebody who does not go to the cinema very often, its very frustrating that when I do go, half of the movies showing are forgettable superhero s***

Nobodies gonna rewatch these movies in 20 years because the special effects are dog s***. Also yeah Disney pushes indie movies out of the theaters
More popular than ever? Are you insane? How old are you?
You don’t think The Mandalorian is popular?
And considered of quality?

That's not what you said. Classic moving goal posts. If you remember when the force awakens came out the hype was certainly much larger than anything Star wars has now

My point was the format (of superhero movies) is the issue due their fear of experimenting
My next point: Star Wars does this well by their series
It equals a nice mix of surprise and heritage but this is hard to do immediately
A great example of this is from DC’s direct animations. While not amassing the same popularity as their films, the quality of the format is outstanding
But Flashpoint Paradox wouldn’t do well in the box office; however the series touching on this theme has proven to be successful
They just need to marry the two slowly
A Batman who Laughs film would be outstanding and received well as they’ve proven darker themes are now palatable, in comparison to the more silly endeavours of their past

The What If series from Marvel also does this excellently. Could have been a Hollywood animated anthology on par with Spider Verse but the audience has not been acclimatised to this just yet. SV is definitely pushing the boundaries and opening up doors to big screen animated experimentation from DC & Marvel

This is kind of besides the point of the thread but idk why but this post right here finally made it click as to why the domination of superhero films at multiplexes hasn’t bothered me.
I have the luxury of choice in my area. If one theater doesn’t have a movie I want to see another one 10-15 minutes down the road will and I’m okay with making the trip to do so. I just never sat there and thought other peoples potential disdain would come from the fact that they don’t have the same opportunities to see films as I do. Like maybe the one multiplex you go to is the only one for like 20 miles.
Damn

I have smaller theaters in my city that play indie films. However that doesn't mean I'm fine with Disney forcing theaters into contracts where they can't play other studios films. Just to add to your point
Other cbm fans. Which I am one. But I'm happy comics can go back underground. Everything doesn't need to be mainstream
Comics havent been underground since like 80 years ago though

I just want superheroes to not be the dominant culture in media. We get the best stuff when superheroes are niche

That’s still also not much of an issue at least in my area
There’s at least 2 20+ screen multiplexes that play everything including foreign films
The only rarity is theatrical releases of Netflix films but even then our non-profit indie theater just struck a deal with Netflix to do so
4 out of the 5 Disney Star Wars movies made over a billion dollars.
there's a reason there hasn't been a movie in theaters in 4 years and there isn't even one on the horizon. they cant get a movie off the ground.

mandalorian has had diminishing returns. szn 3 was borderline ass. Kenobi was ass. boba fett ass. ahsoka ass. disney+ Star Wars is getting a reputation of being middling and the ratings have gone down the more niche it gets. its not like mandalorian szn1 where everyone would watch even if you're not a huge Star Wars nerd.
cape flicks never dying cry about it
6/8 superhero movies completely bombed this yr

I very much agree but it’s clear from the data that there is a tendency of around the same amount of people watching every week, with small drops (week 3-4) and small upticks (week 2-3) which is natural for any new show format
(divided the minutes watched by the total runtime of the show up until each week)
