I’m not, I grew up upper middle class due to my dad being in the military but I have cousins from Newark NJ and used to go to Newark over the summers growing up.

    It honestly wasn’t THAT bad

Newark is significantly safer than it used to be. 2000-2012 were wild times.

    it ain't worth it imo.

You're gonna need security at all times.
And the family and homies gonna suck you dry till they squeeze every penny out of you.

    At least that's my experience.

Depends what you mean by hood. You mean the projects or just the lower income area. Cause idk about you but the projects are not fun the majority of the time

I'm experiencing this phenomenon where the hood is being left behind by everyone except crackheads and old people.
    S***s a desert down here

    Can anyone relate?
All my peeps moving to New York

Born, raised, and still in the hood. Only difference these days for me is the hood is more gentrified. A lot of Low income white people have been moving over here in recent years. White people have always been the EXTREME minority around here and now I see them all the time. Teenagers don’t just lounge around outside anymore either. Most of them sit in the house which I have no complaints about.

I live in Newark, NJ, in the Roseville area. Honestly, over the years things have been getting a bit better. There used to be drivebys on my block regularly but the police raided my building and a few others multiple times and got hella ppl outta here. Now it’s pretty safe but of course niggas still hang outside and sell d****.
The downtown area and parts of up north are getting gentrified to hell. I saw a white girl jogging down Norfolk this morning. I remember getting robbed on that very block on my way to school a few years ago

well harlem/bronx but now both are pretty much calm aside from some parts but growing up for me it def wasnt safe to be in the mix at all.

  • Jan 2, 2020

Lived most of my life in one of the worst neighborhoods in NYC.

I'm hood adjacent now. It's not the hood but it's not that nice. My home neighborhood hasn't been gentrified yet, I left for safety concerns.

S*** is crazy. In my City rn you’ll have millennial tech and finance bro’s living basically accross the street from the projects

My fam stays in the vailsburg area. I definitely agree it has gotten better over the years. Funny you mention the gentrification because I don’t think Newark is ever a place that can be fully gentrified if that makes sense. I think it’s going to end up like Baltimore where they keep trying to gentrify s*** but it never works the way they want.

yeah, I get that, but I feel guilty for leaving the place behind. feels like I owe them something, especially since they're still there.

and I don't feel like they're the type of folk to do that, but I guess you never know with people

I lived most of my childhood in The Bronx, the most suburban I got living in the Bronx was my last 3 years where my Family rented a house in the North Bronx, but that was literally right up the block from Edenwald Projects so I'd say Hood adjacent.

When I moved to Charlotte my first 4 years I lived in East Charlotte. Definitely hood lol. There was a Police Car Chase in my apartment complex my first week or so of living there.

I lived in North Charlotte for a year, definitely not rich but definitely not hood.

I moved to South Charlotte 10 yrs ago and it started off fairly middle class but at this point my apartment complex is hood af as well. Usually an arguing couple or a loud ass cookout party outside

Lowkey jewish people own the hood, the only thing you own is the memories and emotional attachment to it.

If anything you should invest into wealthier neighbourhoods cause at least you might get buying power that way.

The hood is beautiful till the crime rate go up.

When I was back for Christmas people started running away from the fireworks cause they thought it was gunshots

This s*** is a real phenomenon though. Niggas was firing live rounds during the fireworks celebrations on new year

  • Jan 2, 2020

Yes but it’s gotten a lot better since I was a kid. Gang stuff really died out here
