Do you believe it is a subset, its own categorization, or something else?

Recently had this brought up in a discussion with my brother, where he said no because America at large would not “tout” the culture (aka they dont highlight it the way they do, lets say Americana).

I said that you ARE an American, whether you like it or not, and black culture is rooted in America.

What yall think

America has no culture without black culture

Probably a subset of American culture. Like you said, like it or not we are american. Our ancestors have probably been here longer than most of these white people

While it is obviously part of US culture, I would say it has a very different place in the perception. When foreigners think of the USA, they think of cowboys and McDonalds and big cars and guns first and foremost.

Not really. There's similarities but black American culture is different from west African culture is different from east African culture is different from black carribean culture is different from afro Latino culture etc. And even within all these it's a ton diversity. But niggas think everybody think everybody outside the US is basically a nigerian

Why even try to define it like that
