Every country and group of people has culture without it you wouldnt even be able to differentiate 😵‍💫 its not that deep you guys

Culture is not just making music its how you live, what you wear, what you eat, when you eat, how you spend your day or how you work etc.

Always think about what historians gonna say about your country 300 years from now and you can kind of imagine what theyll describe as your culture

Not really. There's similarities but black American culture is different from west African culture is different from east African culture is different from black carribean culture is different from afro Latino culture etc. And even within all these it's a ton diversity. But niggas think everybody think everybody outside the US is basically a nigerian

Was just poking fun at op for using black culture instead of black american culture.
As you say yourself americans just think about themselves while the black diaspora is worldwide.

Nothing to do with being PC

Melting pot: all kinds of different cultures melt together to form one common culture.
Salad bowl: cultures coexist together but retain their own identities.

i feel like black culture is commodified and oppressed at the same time.

That commodification is a major part of the oppression.

Oppression doesn’t just happen, it’s on the basis of economic/material interests; that interest manifests itself in black culture being the major factor of America’s cultural export

Slaves weren’t kept because people actually thought it was the right thing to do. They thought the right thing to do was what aided them financially, and slavery did that.

    Black culture is global

    no that's silly

culture comes from where u live, the people u live with, the traditions u carry, the way u speak, etc.

culture doesn't come from skin color. Are people from South Africa and Nigeria of very similar skin tone? yes. Does that mean Nigeria and South Africa have the same culture? no.

  • May 29, 2022

i mean the thing u gotta realize is that race is a construct, meaning we make it "real" through how our society is structured and conducts itself.

In the US we do a very good job of making race "real". Other countries don't though. Over here we have this understanding that all black people are more or less in the same group, this isn't really the case in most of the rest of the world. I mean in South Africa, for example, lightskin/mixed is treated as its own race, separate from what they understand as black people. And in other countries they don't really even separate people into racial groups.

so when we talk about "black culture" we have to remember we're speaking from a very american point of view

so what do you mean when you say black culture is global

I am talking about the black diaspora, you are aware that most black slaves came from the east and west coasts of africa right?
In every part of the diaspora cultural remnants from those places still remain (rap as a whole and this forum wouldn't exist without that influence).
Nigerians and South africans are different yet they share similair cultural elements too.
Some black americans like to insist that their particular subset defines black culture or even go so far as to act that they are one and the same while that's not true at all.
Black culture is global, crazy I have to explain that on here.
