He brought something new with his emotional take to rap and became a king off it.

Will we ever see someone that big again?

I feel like rap’s devolving now and going backwards as a genre (Drake included) in a funny way was he the beginning of the end?

Haven’t enjoyed new rap for like 3 years now

Her Loss was good but Drake sounds soulless at this point

It’s not. It’s only getting more popular.

Drake’s reign has only been so long because no one news been good enough to replace him.

I don’t think it’s ever taken 10 years for someone to be unseated in rap history

its kinda true rap was the biggest genre in the usa 2015-2018 now pop is on top.ironically maybe thats why for some reasion we cant find new rap superstars past 2018

  • Nov 19, 2022

At his peak he was fantastic don’t get me wrong. But he’s definitely declined and nothings happened because of it.

That’s the telling sign. It’s decaying

How is rap going backwards or devolving

It’s definitely got worse since 2013-14

Been going downhill since then and there’s not enough good artists around now for a recovery

    How is pop on top?

Y’all let the radio and the fake billboard charts fool y’all into thinking these pop stars are bigger than they are.

  • Nov 19, 2022

It's looking like that. There will always be dope new rappers and some will even become superstars, hip hop isn't dying like op making it seem, but it's hard to imagine a new rapper ever making the same or similar impact that Drake made

bro check sales and streams combined not just streams

  • Nov 19, 2022

No. Hip hop isn't dying at all.

It's just that the way we consume music and media is way different due to the decline of monoculture via radio, tv, CD sales, and press conferences.

It affects more than hip hop too.

Sales and radio play is not legitimate. That’s what I’m talking about. Taylor Swift incentivizing her fans to buy 4 of the same album to make up a clock is bullshit and makes it seem like more people are listening than actually are.

This and disproportionate amounts of radio spending/play are the cheap tricks that pop artists have to resort to give people the illusion that they are competing with rappers here.

Cause as we see if you just judge it music for music, who’s clicking play and listening it’s not even close

I might be wrong in saying dying. Too strong a word.

But I feel it’s been declining since mid-2010s

    So you’re talking subjectively?

Again there’s nothing shown rap is going backwards as a genre outside personal preferences for what is mainstream right now, just not true. Now you could make an argument for the first point and why it’s been a detriment.

And see I could make the argument that all the SC artists getting propped up in the mainstream was trash during that era

There’s no concrete basis it’s all subjective

Like could you see a time where we have a Cole, Drake and Cole simultaneously again?

    Or a 50, Wayne, Kanye?

From like 2019 to 2022 it’s been 📉 for me

Rap isn’t devolving but music consumption is

There will be no more superstars.
