DLDT is exactly what you’re describing.

    Still got panned.

People b**** and moan about album length but I 100% guarantee it will not matter in the case of Drake. Complaining about that is just a shallow excuse for music criticism, but if he addresses that criticism, you’ll just move on to another criticism. DLDT proved just that. In fact, one media publication that reviewed it STILL called it bloated at 14 songs 😂😂😂

People keep holding Drake to other artists styles and don't realize Drake is just being Drake. He looks up to Jay but that doesn't mean he has to make albums like him. If Drake made a 4:44 I think people would call him out for copying it

  • Drake is definitely not too big to make a concise album. 40 been pushing this man to do it.

He just don’t want to. That’s really it.

That’s not a “conceise” project though. That’s just a compilation of leaks + songs intended for early early CLB to hold people over during the Pandemic. Put together very quickly.

NWTS is a good example of something “conceise” Drake has done.

It’s literally the definition of a concise project. Short and sonically cohesive. You can’t nitpick because of how the project was made when the end result is the only thing that matters.

Correct me if I’m wrong but IYRTITL was also made in quickly + some of those songs were written by QM and PND + it’s a mixtape. Guess that project doesn’t count either.

  • The views formula only worked for 1 album and even then the quality somewhat suffered

NWTS was cute, but come on fam

That was 2013 and he hasn't really shown any growth since then

Once again, I LOOOOVE Drake. This is not a hate thread.

At this point in his career I would just like to see grwoth instead of Girls Want Girls and Way 2 Sexy (even tho those songs slap in real life lol)

it will happen once hes on the decline mainstream, he'll use that to rejolt his career for a few more years and i highly doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

Was Drake bloating his albums for streaming when he made So Far Gone and Take Care? He's always made long mixtapes and albums so he still would even without streaming

The quality and content was drastically different tho

He wouldn't be able to take a two or three year break and then come back with a 12-track concise album. That just wouldn't satisfy all the fans like it would need to. He could, however, release a one-year-post-album concise mixtape / EP / 'playlist' / whatever as a morsel for the fans to eat up between albums. That would work.

he alluded to that looking back on scorpion. Seemed like clb would be more focused because of that but I think the beef got in the way of the process again. Maybe the next one

I think the delays are more of what bloated CLB honestly

Imagine asking an artist for a slimmed down album in the streaming era. For better or for worse this is how the game (music industry) is now. More songs = more streams = more money and more records broken.

Drake is maintaining his dominance and perception this way. The metrics matter more than ever now, whether you agree with it or not.

It’s business at the end of the day and business will always trump what fan boys on a forum want from their favorite artist, with all due respect

I’m legit tired of hearing about how streaming means the albums have to chock full of the middest beats known to man. He can deffo make 20 track albums with newer sounding production ffs.

Kanye is 44 and the deluxe version of his latest album has 32 tracks. Eminem is 49 and the deluxe version of his latest album has 36 tracks.

Drake hasn't done a deluxe since 2013 with Nothing Was the Same and he's one of the only rappers who can drop a 20-track album and make it worth your while because of all the various styles of music he makes. Other rappers are dropping 30+ rap albums and no one seems to complain about that.

Niggas just need to let Drake do him. If you don't f*** with the music then don't listen.

You know what the word isn’t even mid, it’s samey. He spends so much time releasing stuff off cycle that the album comes around and there isn’t much of an element of surprise anymore tbh. He needs to shock people a lil at some point. You can almost see him coming a mile away now.
