I always think it’s funny how people believe that working long hours is a status symbol. No you’re not clean cus you worked 60 hours in the week getting paid like dog s***. American work culture is so trash and we really need another giant labor movement. I can’t wait for the day that I only have to work four 10 hour days and be able to spend time with my daughter or actually go see my primary physician on my day off.

what are people going to do on a daily basis when automation takes over this whole s***

This is gonna throw a lot of people off balance. Our work routines make up a huge part of our lives and most people don't realize it. Wouldn't be surprised if mental health issues arise bc of lack of structure. Boredom finna kill us unless we evolve and find meaning in other things, perhaps artistic pursuits or our forgotten passions

As someone whose worked the “4 day work week” and the typical 5 day 8-5 7-4 schedule I much rather prefer the 5 day work week. Shorter shifts and weekends off. If you don’t like your 5 day work week you don’t like your job not the hours

The fact that in the 70's a common topic of discussion was "what are we going to do in the 21st century since rising productivity will lead to everyone working fewer hours for the same amount of pay? People will be bored? What will working so little look like?"

And instead we're working more than ever
Children, teens, and young adults are killing themselves at a higher rate than ever
There are riots everywhere and inequality is at an all time peak.

These problems are systemic, and inherent in any economical system based on linear growth.

    We are so beyond f***ed.

nah it definitely only creates more tension. kids / their parents are in their own echo chambers online and when these conversations are hashed out at the dinner table often times it leads to disputes I would imagine

That’s a whole ass lie, only you believes your own bullshit.

If you did your research you would find that the 5 day 8-5 was created by Henry Ford and implemented in his auto manufacturing plants and as a result productivity shot up because workers got to spend more time with friends and family and had more time to spend money on goods and services which boosted local economies

Regardless what I said stands. If you thoroughly enjoy your job you’re not watching the clock. If you’re watching the clock it’s because you’re anxious to leave which should say something about the profession you’re in

No one wants to admit they’re stuck or unqualified to do something else so they turn to blaming their schedule as if the job is mandatory

Complaining about your hours is a cop out

Sounds kind of like you're victim blaming.... The system wasn't set up so that everyone has a job that they love man lol. If you love what you do that's a huge blessing but that's just frankly not the reality for most people
