so i was watching YNS and alphonse podcast video (s/o to you @YoungNastyShawty you doing the damn thing rn) and i got to the part where alphonse was the s***ting on the alchemist calling his best lifeless and robotic. and while that was hilarious it got me to thinking of voir dire was kind of disappointing to me. it was a good album don’t get me wrong, but it was missing the spark that alchemist albums had these past few years (especially disappointing since we’ve all been waiting for him earl)
so is it time to have a real conversation about alchemist albums losing their magic recently? bc im afraid if he don’t slow down or switch up the formula soon he may go down the post-2016 future road of getting lost in the sauce after having an all time run
idk what y’all expected from voir dire but it’s exactly what I wanted
If you were in vultures thread the other day you’d have been told he’s better than Kanye all time

He is.
alch can be mad versatile with the production but I think he's just riding he 4 bar drumless loop till ppl get tired of it
ppl seemingly aren't tired yet so

i’ve been saying half of those Alc collab tapes or whatever are vastly overrated on this site and i got crucified for it
his production is really hit or miss nowadays it seems like
This site has such a weird hate boner for Alchemist lmao
it isn’t a hate boner at all, it’s actually quite the opposite
y’all call every single Alc collab album a classic
My leather coat was draggin' in the dirt (Draggin')
I got buff from baggaging the work (Got muscles now)
I'm at thе table, I'm having a dessert (You see mе)
Three piece suit with the napkin in the shirt (Uh)
I'm a big bowl of macaroni (Me)
Know how to spot and catch a phony
And do the Plaxico to myself before the matrimony (Shoot myself)
Stick shift Aston, I'm diggin' in my trick basket (Yeah)
Fixin' plays, cut up the pot and split the change (60 days)
A lot of s*** could happen in 60 days

I still love Alc but i think he’s dropped off a bit if you compare it to his early 2010s run
while I didn't fully agree with Alphonse, he do gotta point in a way. the re-release of No Idols by Domo Genesis shows how lively his production was at the time. But from this year, his collab with Larry June was really good, June fit perfect on that style of production and I feel like Alc tailored his beats to June. Faith is a Rock too, real good stuff.
Covert Coup production is still ridiculous to this day. That tape could be peak Alc for me

"y’all call every single Alc collab album a classic"
Said no one ever lol definitely has a few mid ones in his catalog with certain rappers tho
Anytime there's a 'real convo' about Al's recent releases barely anyone brings up Haram, despite the production on their being fantastically inventive. He's more than capable of it. And beyond that most people never even bothered to listen to Haram.
But clearly a lot of artists aren't going to him for those kind of beats. Earl just wanted some beautiful loops to bar out on, can't complain with that considering how much experimenting he's done. Album was still excellent. Boldy, Currensy, Larry June all ain't really challenging themselves much production-wise, which is fine, they have a niche and they're great at that. Al just tailors to that.
Again, as soon as the album with Crown Nation drops the majority of you are going to pay it no attention and then be complaining that his production is stale.

nigga that Voir Dire album was okay
the Roc Marci album was mid pack
the collab with Domo Genesis was mid pack
and yet if you peek into the threads for these albums, we have niggas like yourself acting like they’re masterpieces
So we attacking Alc and Mach today? The f*** is wrong with you people?
School is out for the week and its just trash bag city in this forum

Haram is the exception not the rule
besides that s*** and Alfredo those collabs have not been too much to write home about at all, even the Boldy series or whatever starts dropping off after roughly the first two tapes
