Is J Cole literally the only instance of someone being anointed “the next one” and actually living up to it? Maybe 50?

Cole definitely has the respect of legends like Nas and Q-Tip

To me he's had a weird career. The whole platinum with no feats was a really weird hill for his fans to die on

it became a meme after awhile that not just his fans pushed

Wouldn’t really say he ran a generation, he’s just kind of been there and after 10 years he anointed himself as some elder statesman of rap.

He walks around like a Bill Russell without the 11 rings

No he was part of the big 3 that ran the generation.

    Hi Roller

Yeah, if we’re being completely honest Kendrick is probably the one who’s work is most likely to outlive it’s commercial relevancy.

You sure it's viewed as a classic? Because I had to Google what this is

Again, I don't think FHD is bad or anything. Just not quite classic status, even though I remember that era very well

So FHD isn’t a classic but IYRTITL is?

f*** up. He definitely credits Hov as his og and vice versa. this is based on nothing but blasphemy and slander you mudnugget

Slander towards who? I’m literally saying Cole woulda been successful no matter who he signed to

Like yeah Cole gives him credit for signing him but they clearly dont have the same relationship as a Drake/Wayne Hov/Ye etc niggas who really owe their success to their og

You say this like J Cole’s last classic album (FHD) didn’t outsell and receive more acclaim than Drake’s last classic album (IYRTITL). He’s earned his spot but yall gonna keep hating on J Cole for whatever reason

You comparing an album to something that was marketed as a mixtape and was released on soundcloud same time as streaming mid tracking week

I remember the day IYRTITL was released. it was on SoundCloud for less than a few hours so that didn’t really make a difference. Also I’m talking about overall sales.

FHD is 3x plat and IYRTITL isn’t. FHD had more staying power than IYRTITL

How different does Drakes career look if Wayne is out of jail and thus stunting Drakes growth vs him being away and allowing Drake to do all the mainstream feats he’d do otherwise

Not much different at all lol
